Why you need to know about Nike’s first ever maternity line

Calling all mums and mums-to-be! Find out when and where you can shop the Nike M line.

It's hard to believe that this is Nike's first ever maternity line. We've seen the sportswear giant come out with an adaptive fashion collection, as well as a Pro Hijabi, so it's not as if Nike doesn't know a thing or two about inclusivity.

Nike's maternity line, which has been dubbed "Nike M", didn't just arise overnight. In fact, the innovative launch has come from years of research and development. We're talking accumulated data from over 150,000 body scans of women from all over the world.

The specific data helped Nike determine how the body grows during pregnancy and into early motherhood. We are loving this initiative taken by Nike, because there's no point creating a maternity sportswear line if you're not taking into consideration exactly how the human body changes.

What's in the Nike M collection?

Over the course of three years, the brand tested 70 different materials, narrowing them down to the final nine that were used across the four different styles in the Nike M line.

The collection includes:

  • A pair of tights made with a stretchy fabric and wide waistband.
  • A sports bra that features an elastic rib band slider with extra padding (also accommodating a nursing pump).
  • A tank top that stretches in four ways, allowing for flexible growth.
  • A cover-up fleece that arrives with a split hem to allow room for the growing belly.

When can you get your hands on it? An official release date has been set for 17 September. We're unsure if this applies to all countries, so if you're living in Australia like us, keep an eye on the official Nike store.

It's likely that you'll be able to shop the collection from Nike stockists. Some of our absolute favourites include THE ICONIC, ASOS, rebel and JD Sports.
