Why medical workers will want the Nike Air Zoom Pulse line
The brand new range has been designed with the needs of medical professionals in mind.
Having just designed a line in collaboration with US Children's Hospital, OHSU Doernbecher, sportswear titan Nike has now turned its attention to another deserving group of people – the staff. Recognising nurses, doctors, home health providers and others who work tirelessly to aid patients, Nike has created a range of shoes to provide them with comfort and support in their day to day roles.
Release date: 7 December (US)
Price: US$120
Where to buy: The US Nike site, StockX
The Nike Air Zoom Pulse line will see a range of new sneaker iterations arrive on the Nike US site come 7 December. While a retail price is yet to be announced, all profits from the sales will be donated to the OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
To create the sneakers, the designers of the Air Zoom Pulse sought insights from real life medical workers to determine how the shoes could best accommodate their needs.
In a release, Nike said, "Nurses, for example, walk approximately four to five miles and sit for less than an hour during the course of a 12-hour shift. The work is physically and mentally demanding. The design for the Air Zoom Pulse tackles those challenges with simplicity in mind."
These changes include making each shoe in an easy slip-on design, as well as coating the toe boxes to make them easy to clean. The sneakers are also fitted with a full-rubber outsole, a flexible drop-in midsole with Zoom Air heel unit and a secure heel fit to ensure that the sneakers are comfortable enough to be worn for long periods, but also secure enough to accommodate for hurried movement.
The designs themselves are vastly different, having been created by six different designers, some of them patients themselves. You can see them below:
Despite being designed for medical professionals, the Nike Air Zoom Pulse line is for anyone after a comfortable and secure everyday shoe.
