Nike Air Max 1 Chinese New Year sneakers: First look
Ring in the Chinese New Year with a pair of these mythical kicks.
While the Chinese New Year isn't until the end of January, we're already beginning to see sneak peeks of the celebratory collections fashion and beauty labels have in store. Following its usual tradition of releasing limited edition kicks for the occasion, sportswear giant Nike has now joined in and revealed the first look at its 2020 edition.

Taking on the iconic Air Max 1 silhouette, the Chinese New Year sneakers are definitely eye-catching by design. Arriving in a mixture of pink leather underlays and black suede overlays with patent leather on the heel, the style is a real mixed bag. A bold golden tongue tab, aqua blue linings and two-toned laces further add to the vibrant design.
Despite 2020 signifying the year of the rat, Nike has leaned more into a mythical design for the shoe and has instead featured a winged golden horse on the heel. Symbols on the tongue tag which say "Nike" in Chinese, a mini Swoosh on the lateral side of the toe and a plastic Nike logo and Swoosh chained to the laces round out the design.
As this is a first look, no release information is available just yet, though we expect to see them become available sometime in January. When they do drop, we'll likely see them first on the Nike site. They may also become available in retailers like JD Sports that are known for stocking limited-edition collections.
Nike will also have several other Chinese New Year editions up for grabs, including a pair of yellow Kyrie 6's decorated with floral and firework motifs. A festive black and white iteration of the Air Jordan 34 will also be available.
In other Nike news, the brand has just released an icy iridescent pair of Air Jordan 1s titled Retro High OG Zoom. Part of the new Fearless Ones collection, the kicks have already drawn a huge amount of hype, immediately selling out at Culture Kings on the day of their release. If you're looking to get your hands on a pair, we strongly recommend snapping them up as soon as they get a restock.
