How do I make a claim with NIB ?
- Get in touch. Let NIB know immediately by downloading, completing and sending the claims form to the address on the back of the form.
- Be thorough. Be sure to provide all the necessary information. Depending on the nature of your claim, you’ll be asked to provide medical and police reports, written statements from transport carriers, receipts, proof of ownership and travelling tickets.

NIB FAQ
Q. How is my premium calculated?
- A. Your premium is based on a number of factors including the destination, duration of the journey, your age, the number of people to be insured on the policy, additional options and whether or not you have any pre-existing medical conditions.
Q. What is covered under loss of income?
- A. A weekly loss of income benefit is payable if you become disabled within 30 days of an injury you sustained during your journey, which stops you from working for more than 30 days after your return to Australia.
Q. Who can buy NIB policies?
- A. NIB Travel Insurance is available to both residents and non-residents of Australia. As long as you purchase your policy in Australia before leaving on your journey, and as long as your journey starts and ends in Australia, you are eligible for NIB travel insurance policies.
Q. What are the age restrictions?
- A. You must be under 81 years of age to be eligible for travel insurance with NIB.
Q. What is covered under the Family policy?
- A. This plan covers you and members of your family travelling with you. The benefit limits apply to the total of all claims combined, regardless of the number of persons to which the claims relate.
Q. Who underwrites NIB Travel Insurance?
- A. Travel insurance policies provided by NIB are underwritten by Lloyd’s of London and arranged by Cerberus Special Risks.
Q. Can I cancel my NIB policy if I’m not happy with it?
- A. You have a 14-day cooling-off period during which you can cancel your policy. As long as you haven’t left on your holiday or filed a claim, you’ll receive a full refund.
