New on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Foxtel, BINGE, Stan, Apple TV+ and more in June 2021

June streaming highlights include Sweet Tooth, Loki, Eden and more.

The midway point of the year is slowly creeping up on us. Still haven't seen anything so far in 2021 worth telling your grandkids about? Not even the Friends reunion? Maybe June is your month, as it will be a busy one for streaming releases. Here are some highlights worth adding to your watchlist.

Over at Netflix, one of the most buzz-worthy premieres of June is Sweet Tooth, a new series based on the comic books of the same name. The plot follows a young boy/deer hybrid who befriends a loner and together they set out for the adventure of a lifetime. It looks charming and whimsical, like a fairy tale adults can enjoy as well.

June also brings new episodes of Lupin, Feel Good, Too Hot to Handle, Black Summer and Elite. On the movie front, you might want to check out Fatherhood, a dramedy starring Kevin Hart as a single dad struggling after he loses his wife. And Awake, a sci-fi action flick set in a world where a mysterious catastrophe wipes out all electronics and takes away humanity's ability to sleep. Yikes!

BINGE hosts plenty of exciting premieres this month as well. Take Oslo, a movie based on the negotiations between Israel and Palestine that led to the 1993 Oslo Peace Accords. Or the new edition of the 70s cult classic action-adventure series Kung Fu, about a woman who uses her martial arts skills to protect her community.

June also marks the premiere of season six of beloved reality hit Below Deck Mediterranean, along with multiple seasons of 90 Day Fiancé and its various spin-offs. Oh, and Tenet is also arriving on the streaming platform. If you haven't seen the mind-bending Christopher Nolan thriller yet, now's the perfect time to tune in.

Most of these titles will be on Foxtel as well. If you're into old-school crime shows, Deputy might be up your alley, as it follows a career lawman who needs to step up when he becomes acting sheriff of Los Angeles County. As for movies, check out An American Pickle, which stars Seth Rogen as a man who gets embalmed in brine and comes back to life 100 years later.

Next, Stan is bringing us a new original series, Eden. It follows the high-achieving Scout, who returns home to the beach community of Eden after her first year at Juilliard to find her enigmatic best friend Hedwig changed. When Hedwig disappears, Scout's desperate investigation leads to startling revelations. The cast includes BeBe Bettencourt, Sophie Wilde, Cody Fern, Keiynan Lonsdale, Samuel Johnson and Christopher James Baker.

Other June highlights on Stan include The Republic of Sarah and Hitmen, as well as continuing series Run the World, We Are Lady Parts and The Bold Type. If you like sports documentaries we recommend This is Port Adelaide, about one of Australia's oldest and most successful football clubs.

Speaking of docos with a focus on sports, Amazon Prime Video is bringing us Head Above Water, a four-part series which follows swimming legend Ian Thorpe along with Bronte Campbell, Kyle Chalmers and Cody Simpson. On the same note, the 2021 Australian Olympic Swimming Trials will stream live on the platform between 12-17 June from the Gold Coast.

If reality is more your thing, the service is also premiering Clarkson's Farm. In this one, Jeremy Clarkson tries to run a 1,000-acre farm in the English countryside despite knowing nothing whatsoever about farming.

On the movie front, check out Freaky, a horror comedy about a 17-year-old who swaps bodies with a deranged serial killer. We also recommend the inspiring and emotional movie Our Friend, about a man who puts his life on hold to help a couple deal with heartbreaking news. It's based on true events and the cast features Casey Affleck, Dakota Johnson and Jason Segel.

Disney+ subscribers and Marvel fans alike should look forward to Loki, a new series that follows the mischievous character as he steps out from Thor's shadow to embark on an epic adventure through time. Cruella might still be behind a paywall, but Raya and the Last Dragon will finally become available to stream this month without an extra fee.

If you like British television, BritBox premieres psychological thriller Intruder and season three of the critically acclaimed show The Detectorists. Meanwhile, Acorn TV streams new episodes of Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries and The Sommerdahl Murders.
