New on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, Stan, BINGE, Foxtel and more in October 2022

There's something for everyone among October's streaming releases.

October is a busy month when it comes to new releases on the movie and TV front. You can also get re-acquainted with old favourites making a splashy comeback. Check out all the highlights below.

What's new on Netflix?

Netflix continues to premiere new stuff at alarming speed. October brings new seasons of Derry Girls, Big Mouth, Love Is Blind, Unsolved Mysteries and Nailed It!.

For new TV shows to get excited for, The Midnight Club is set inside a hospice for terminally ill teens where members of an exclusive club make a chilling pact. The first to die must send a sign from beyond the grave.

On the same note, Guillermo Del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities is a horror collection curated by the acclaimed director and featuring bizarre nightmares that unfold in 8 tales of terror. Spine-tingling stuff.

More into movies? Check out Luckiest Girl Alive, which stars Mila Kunis as a writer whose perfect life unravels when a true-crime documentary forces her to confront her dark past. Or The School for Good and Evil, about 2 best friends who find their bond put to the test when they're whisked away to a magical school for future fairy-tale heroes and villains.

The streaming service is also debuting All Quiet on the Western Front, a tense drama based on the bestseller by Erich Maria Remarque. And Aussie film The Stranger, a dark crime thriller about a small circle of seasoned undercover cops struggling to catch an elusive murderer.

Oh, and The Good Nurse is also landing on Netflix this month. It's a drama about a nurse who suspects that her friend might be behind some suspicious deaths. With Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne.

What's new on BINGE and Foxtel?

On Foxtel and BINGE, a new season of acclaimed series The White Lotus is set to drop at the end of the month. The next chapter of the social satire is set at an exclusive Sicilian resort in Italy and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week. Season 1 won 10 Emmy awards, so viewers should be in for another delicious ride with season 2.

You might also like BINGE's first original lifestyle series, Selling in the City, in which designer Rosie Morley and landscape artist Paddy Milne team up to elevate the interior and exterior design of Australia's most in-demand inner-city properties. If you're more into docos, part 2 of The Vow is set to debut this month, about the infamous NXIVM cult. You should also check out House of Hammer, a docuseries looking into the many scandals surrounding actor Armie Hammer.

For Supernatural fans, The Winchesters is a prequel narrated by Jensen Ackles, centred around Dean and Sam's parents. As for returning faves, don't miss season 3 of DC series Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler, which will kick off after a 5-year time jump. Additionally, it's the beginning of the end for The Walking Dead, with the show's final batch of episodes promising to build up to an explosive conclusion.

Movie highlights for October include King Richard, Morbius, After Yang and The Northman.

What's new on Stan?

Stan is debuting an original dating series this month. Love Triangle challenges a group of singles to choose someone sight unseen, based on a deeper connection. We expect twists and plenty of drama, so reality TV fans have some exciting content to look forward to.

Additionally, new seasons of Gangs of London, All American, One of Us Is Lying, Walker and Ramy are making their way to the service. If you haven't sampled new show Vampire Academy yet, there's no time like the present to enter high vampire society, with fresh episodes arriving weekly on Stan.

Looking to expand your entertainment horizons? You might like Señorita 89, a thriller set in Mexico's glamorous 1980s scene that revolves around contestants getting ready to endure 3 months of arduous training until they reach the Miss Mexico pageant. What could possibly go wrong?

What's new on Prime Video?

On Prime Video, Chloë Grace Moretz leads The Peripheral, a series about a woman who discovers a secret connection to an alternate reality, as well as a dark future of her own. For fans of psychological thrillers, The Devil's Hour stars Jessica Raine as Lucy, whose nightmares draw her into a hunt for a serial killer in a world where nothing is as it seems.

October is a good time to be a movie buff too. Catherine Called Birdy, directed by Lena Dunham, has been getting rave early reviews. The period dramedy is set in medieval times and follows a young girl who isn't interested in marrying anyone in order to secure her family's future, which puts her at odds with her father. Check it out on Prime Video starting 7 October. Another movie coming to Prime Video, this time after a cinema run, is Michael Bay's heist gone wrong action pic Ambulance.

Elsewhere, Liam Neeson is an assassin-for-hire who discovers that he has become a target in action movie Memory, while High School is a TV series about finding your own identity based on the popular memoir by Tegan and Sara. Also look out for the documentary on MMA superstar Mark Hunt: The Fight of His Life, which will also stream on Prime Video this month.

What's new on Disney Plus?

Disney Plus is spoiling subscribers this month with more local content. Shipwreck Hunters Australia is a docuseries about a team of adventurous divers and underwater filmmakers who hunt for long-lost shipwreck secrets in a remote location off the vast coast of Western Australia. It sounds too good to miss.

Marvel fans can look forward to Werewolf by Night, a special about a group of monster hunters who compete for a powerful relic. It's inspired by classic horror films of the 1930s and 1940s, so expect stylish scares and an infectious dose of suspense to spice up the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The special stars Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly and Harriet Sansom Harris.

The service is also premiering new seasons of Big Shot and The Mysterious Benedict Society. Or, you might like Rosaline – a Star original movie that retells Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet from the perspective of Romeo's ex. It looks like a lot of fun.

Additionally, some of the most popular shows on Disney Plus return with new seasons of weekly episodes. The long-running Grey's Anatomy is back for its 19th season, while other retuning shows include The Simpsons, Station 19 and Abbott Elementary.

What's new on Paramount Plus?

On Paramount Plus, October marks the return of the A-League, with matches available live and on demand. Subscribers also get new episodes of Blood and Treasure, Ghosts, Inside Amy Schumer, Blue Bloods and Star Trek: Prodigy, among others.

As far as new shows are concerned, So Help Me Todd is a light legal drama starring Marcia Gay Harden and Skyler Astin as a mother and son investigating cases while navigating their troubled relationship. Meanwhile, Undressed with Kathryn Eisman is a fresh local series which sees the award-winning journalist take a group of Australians on a life-changing journey, exploring what drives their clothing choices and helping them improve their personal style. Also look out for Walker prequel Walker: Independence, which focuses on one of Cordell Walker's ancestors, Abby Walker, who seeks justice for her murdered husband.

Or, you might like Let the Right One In, a series inspired by the hit Swedish novel and movie, which revolves around a young vampire girl and her father who struggles to keep her safe.

Movie buff? This month marks the premiere of Significant Other, a sinister film about a couple whose trip takes a dark turn; and Monster High: The Movie, a musical fantasy extravaganza based on the fashion doll franchise. For spooks and thrills, the 2022 Hellraiser is guaranteed to give you the creeps.

What's new on BritBox, AcornTV, AMC Plus and more?

BritBox is kicking off October with Ridley, a crime drama in which Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar stars as a troubled ex-cop lured back to the service as a consultant in order to help with a complicated case.

Elsewhere, Karen Pirie is a drama that sees cold cases re-examined under new forensic scrutiny, The Great Big Tiny Design Challenge is a new competition show where contestants are challenged to renovate a miniature derelict mansion and heartfelt series All Creatures Great and Small returns with season 3.

Over at Acorn TV, buckle up for season 3 of My Life Is Murder or prepare to get obsessed with Maria Kallio, a gripping new Nordic noir based on Leena Lehtolaine's bestselling novels.

For horror fans, Shudder is celebrating Halloween by bringing out the big guns. V/H/S/99 marks the return of the acclaimed found-footage anthology franchise, featuring 5 new stories likely to give you the creeps. Other highlights in October include original productions Deadstream and Dario Argento's Dark Glasses.

On Apple TV Plus you can check out Shantaram, inspired by the Gregory David Roberts novel. It stars Charlie Hunnam as Lin, a convicted Aussie bank robber who escapes prison and flees to India in the 1980s.

On AMC Plus, this month brings the highly anticipated new series Interview with the Vampire, inspired by the late Anne Rice's novel of the same name. Expect melodrama, gorgeous productions values and a love story worthy of the hype. Acclaimed comedy Documentary Now! will also be back with new episodes.
