New on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, Stan, Foxtel, BINGE and more in March 2022

Highlights for March include the Halo TV series, The Adam Project, Moon Knight and more.

Every month brings exciting streaming premieres, but March is on a whole new level. If you thought that keeping up with new releases was difficult before, wait until you see what the next few weeks have in store.

Between highly anticipated TV returns and intriguing debut series, prepare to be glued to the screen. As for movies, you can pick between Oscar-nominated titles, indie darlings and entertaining crowd-pleasers. Talk about being spoilt for choice!

What's new on Netflix

Netflix is bringing subscribers season 2 of hit series Bridgerton, which effortlessly blends romance, comedy, drama and scandal. According to the official synopsis, when viscount Anthony Bridgerton decides to marry, he meets his match in his intended bride's headstrong big sister. We expect fabulous costumes, witty one-liners and steamy fireworks.

For new shows, you might want to check out Pieces of Her, an adaptation of Karin Slaughter's novel of the same name. It revolves around a woman trying to piece together her mother's dark past in the aftermath of a violent attack. The series stars Toni Collette and Aussie actress Bella Heathcote.

If you feel like laughing, beloved animated show Big Mouth is getting a spin-off, Human Resources. It follows the creatures that help humans navigate daily life, such as the Hormone Monsters, Depression Kitties or Shame Wizards.

Looking for content with a local flavour? Check out Byron Baes, a reality show about Australian influencers flocking to Byron Bay to party and hustle. Or acclaimed 2012 drama Redfern Now, about issues faced by Aboriginal Australians living in the Sydney suburb. It drops on Netflix on 24 March.

On the movie front, Ryan Reynolds stars in The Adam Project as a time-travelling fighter pilot who accidentally crashes in 2022 and teams up with his 12-year-old self to save the future. Based on the trailer, it should be a delight. Leighton Meester returns in thriller The Weekend Away and Grant Gustin teams up with an adorable dog in Rescued by Ruby.

What's new on BINGE and Foxtel

On BINGE, March brings subscribers This Is Going to Hurt, a British series starring Ben Whishaw and based on Adam Kay's bestselling book of the same name. It centres on a junior doctor making his way through the ranks of hospital hierarchy.

We also recommend Our Flag Means Death, a pirate comedy starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi. The show chronicles the adventures of 18th-century gentleman Stede Bonnet, who trades in his comfortable life for that of a buccaneer. He's not taken very seriously – at least until he crosses paths with the infamous Captain Blackbeard.

If you're into sports, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is a new drama about the professional and personal lives of the 80s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports' most revered dynasties. The ensemble cast features John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Jason Clarke, Adrien Brody, Gaby Hoffmann, Tracy Letts, Jason Segel and Julianne Nicholson, to only name a few.

Another show to keep an eye out for is dark comedy Shining Vale, which stars Courteney Cox, Greg Kinnear and Mira Sorvino. It's about a family who moves to a small town. Once they settle into their new house, the mother starts to see a ghost, making her wonder whether she's possessed or simply going mad.

These titles will be on Foxtel as well. There's a great slate of movies coming to the pay TV service too, including Nightmare Alley, Shiva Baby, The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It and Together Together.

What's new on Stan

On Stan, March brings users Joe vs. Carole, a dramatic take of the feud between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin – characters you might be familiar with from Netflix's Tiger King docu-series. John Cameron Mitchell plays Exotic, while Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon portrays Baskin.

You might also like Minx, a comedy set in the world of erotic magazine publishing in 70s Los Angeles, with Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson. Or Bust Down, an edgy comedy about 4 casino employees and the general mess they tend to make of their dead-end jobs.

If you're looking for something more serious, Elle Fanning transforms into Michelle Carter in limited drama The Girl from Plainville, about the texting-suicide case that made headlines a few years ago. The show explores Carter's relationship with Conrad Roy III and the events that led to his death and her conviction for involuntary manslaughter.

As for original productions, Stan drops Show Me the Money this month, a 3-part docu-series that takes AFL fans behind the scenes during the league's blockbuster Trade Period.

What's new on Amazon Prime Video

Over at Prime Video, Patrick Stewart returns as Jean-Luc Picard in season 2 of Star Trek: Picard, which sees his crew go on a bold journey into the past. Sci-fi comedy Upload will also be back with new episodes. If you're looking for a fun and satirical binge, you'll want to mark your calendars for 11 March.

We're still a few months away from the June return of superhero hit The Boys, but fans of the show have something to obsess over in the meantime. The Boys Presents: Diabolical is an animated anthology featuring unseen stories within the show's (grim) universe. All episodes will land on Prime Video at once.

Elsewhere, pop superstar Lizzo is on the hunt for talented dancers in reality series Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls and real-life exes Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas headline erotic thriller Deep Water.

What's new on Disney Plus

March is a packed month for Disney Plus subscribers. Oscar-nominated movie West Side Story arrives on the platform on 2 March. Next, How I Met Your Mother spin-off How I Met Your Father sees Hilary Duff play Sophie, a woman on the hunt for love. As future Sophie tells her kid the story of how she met his dad, viewers get to follow present Sophie navigate a world of dating apps with a little help from her friends.

Pixar can look forward to Turning Red, an animated film about a confident 13-year-old who turns into a giant red panda whenever she gets too excited. Or, you might like Cheaper by the Dozen – an original movie that offers a new take on the 2003 hit family comedy. It stars Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff.

For something less family-friendly (and rated R18+), we recommend Fresh, which tackles the horrors of modern dating. We're not sure what the plot entails, as the trailer gives nothing away. However, the movie premiered at the Sundance film festival to positive reviews and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan. That makes it a must-watch in our book.

Back to TV, this month also marks the release of The Dropout, a series about the rise and downfall of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, played by Amanda Seyfried. If you're unfamiliar with the name, she claimed to revolutionise blood testing... only to fail miserably.

Finally, 30 March brings us Moon Knight, a new Marvel TV series starring Oscar Isaac as a gift-shop employee who becomes plagued with memories of another life. Other highlights include snarky rom-com series You're the Worst and new episodes of Grey's Anatomy.

What's new on Paramount Plus

The biggest premiere of the month for Paramount Plus is Halo, a highly-anticipated TV series based on the video game of the same name. Halo sees a brilliant scientist genetically engineer super-soldiers to fight an alien menace called the Covenant. Episodes unfold weekly starting 24 March.

The platform is also debuting More Than This, a 6-part Australian original drama written by teens for teens. It promises an authentic look at a group of 17-year-old students and their teacher, whose worlds collide when they are thrown together into an English class.

Movie fans have plenty to look forward to as well. Troye Sivan stars in Three Months, a darkly comedic coming-of-age film about a gay teenager exposed to HIV the weekend of his high school graduation.

If you prefer action flicks, The Desperate Hour follows a desperate mother (Naomi Watts) rushing to save her son from a school shooting. For even more thrills, watch Alicia Silverstone and James Tupper battle sharks in The Requin.

What's new on BritBox, AcornTV, Shudder, SBS On Demand and hayu

On hayu, the popular reality franchise Below Deck is coming to Australia. Below Deck Down Under, which premieres on 18 March, showcases the upstairs and downstairs goings-on of a real working superyacht and stars fan favourite Chief Stew Aesha Scott.

Additionally, Top Chef returns with season 19 and Real Housewife Kandi Burruss showcases her restaurant empire in new show Kandi & The Gang.

BritBox is celebrating Mystery Month, which means plenty of new, addictive content for crime enthusiasts. The list includes Sister Boniface Mysteries, Accused, Wire in the Blood and Inspector George Gently. Meanwhile, Acorn TV debuts new shows The Syndicate: Up the Ante and The Paradise, along with series 4 of police drama Candice Renoir.

For horror fans, Shudder premieres comedy The Seed, violent animation The Spine of Night and haunting flick Night's End, about an exorcism gone wrong. If you have AMC+, March brings the debut of spaghetti western drama That Dirty Black Bag, starring Dominic Cooper and Douglas Booth.
