We take a look at hotels that have just opened, hotels that are in the works and major hotel changes across the globe.


Just opened: Truffle Lodge, Tasmania

Last week Tasmania welcomed another glamping site. This time, along the Derwent River in one of Australia’s first truffle orchards.

The property is designed to be eco-friendly and allows guests to explore the natural surrounds. Each tent is filled with a king bed, heating and cooling, fridge, coffee machine, hand carved wooden bath, rain shower and living room.

The luxury glamping site also has plenty of activities to do including kayaking, biking, walks and wildlife spotting.

Just opened: The Millennials Kyoto, Kyoto

Located in the Kawaramachi district, The Millennials Kyoto is the latest addition to Japan’s capsule hotel culture.

The hotel features 150 smart-pods which guests have full control over using an iPod touch that they’re given at check-in. Control features include a security alarm based on bed movement, bed incline, lighting and air flow.

The lobby doubles as a co-working space, there’s an open concept design kitchen, unlimited coffee and daily happy hour serving draft beer.

Just opened: Baba Beach Club, Hua Hin

Baba Beach Club, Hua Hin was one of two luxury resorts opened last week in Thailand, the second being in Phuket. It’s set on the oceanfront with incredible views of the Gulf of Thailand.

The resort features 18 suites and penthouses, 10 three-bedroom villas and 1 5-bedroom villa that are residential spaces. The villas are equipped with private pools and balconies with sea views.

On-site there is a restaurant, spa, bar, pool and DJs with many activities and excursions within walking distance.

Just opened: Hyatt House Düsseldorf/Andreas Quartier, Düsseldorf

The 4th Hyatt House outside the US opened in Düsseldorf last week.

The property is located in the heart of the city in the Andreas Quartier and features 102 rooms and suites equipped with kitchenettes and living rooms.

Featured amenities include buffet breakfast, fitness centre, 24-hour H Market and two boardroom spaces.


Opening soon: Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane, Brisbane

TFE is set to open the new Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane in a restored heritage building next year.

The property will feature a signature restaurant and bar as well as 220 spacious apartments complete with kitchen, living room and laundry. Studios are also available with kitchenettes.

Other amenities include a pool, fitness centre and 24-hour reception.

Special care was taken to preserve the building's integrity by using the original architecture to influence the features and furniture. The lobby stays true to the building's Art Deco origins.


Opening soon: The Chen, Melbourne

Art Series is set to open its eighth property next month in the Box Hill neighbourhood in Melbourne. The hotel is named after Chinese Australian artist Zhong Chen and the design will reflect his fun personality.

The hotel will feature 100 suites that display Chen’s art. Amenities include a rooftop pool and entertainment deck, gym, events centre and car park. Multiple on-site restaurants and cafes will open later this year.

Alice Springs Mercure reopens after $2 million upgrades

Mercure Alice Springs Resort joined the AccorHotels network last week after undergoing renovations of the 139 rooms and facilities. The Ilthe Akethe-Le outdoor shelter was added as a venue for conferences, performances and events. It will also host the hotel's Indigenous workshops and cultural sessions, which begin in 2018.

New Disney hotel to open in 2021

Anaheim, California will receive a new hotel as a part of the Disneyland resort scheduled to open in 2021 and is the first luxurious 4-diamond hotel to open in Anaheim in 20 years. The hotel is planned to become the next gateway into the resort.
