A weekly round-up of new hotel openings around the world.

We take a look at hotels that have just opened, hotels that are in the works and major hotel changes across the globe.


Just opened: Sofitel Darling Harbour, Sydney

Located moments from the newly renovated International Convention Centre (ICC), the Sofitel Darling Harbour saw its official opening last week, becoming the first internationally branded 5-star hotel in the city since 2000.

Its striking facade towers over the harbour and features 590 rooms and 35 suites as well as a French restaurant and champagne bar.


Just opened: W Suzhou, Suzhou, Greater China

The W Hotel brand has expanded further into China with its latest venue opening in Suzhou, which is around 1.5 hours outside of Shanghai. The property hugs the edge of Jinji Lake and is within a stone's throw of the city's UNESCO World Heritage gardens.

Its fit out is a modern take on traditional and natural elements with colours and furniture inspired by lakes, stones and pavilions.

Altogether, it houses 379 rooms and 45 suites, including two Extreme Wow Suites amassing 400 square metres each.

Just opened: Nobis Hotel, Copenhagen

Housed within the former Royal Danish Conservatory of Music, the Nobis Hotel is a luxurious stay in the heart of the city. It's within walking distance of the Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen Central Station, City Hall Square and the Ny Carlsberg Glypotek museum. While historic on the outside, its all minimal and modern on the inside.

The quality is 5-star and the luxury abundant with a dedication to personalisation and a variety of room options at your fingertips from the more humble superior loft room to the extravagant Nobis suite.


Opening soon: Tyrian Melbourne, Melbourne

Tyrian is set to become the newest luxury serviced apartments to open in the suburb of Albert Park.

It's the second Tyrian to open in Melbourne, the first being in Fitzroy, and is penned to feature 2.7 metre high ceilings, stone and glass benchtops and a sky pool.

As part of its 5-star services, the Tyrian will offer guests access to Fiat 500s as well as bikes for those who prefer to travel more leisurely.


Opening soon: West Hotel Sydney, Curio Collection by Hilton

The Curio Collection by Hilton's first Sydney Venture is knocking on our doors, due to open as soon as December 2017.

Within its walls, we're expecting plush exuberance to the tune of 182 guest rooms, four suites, a restaurant, bar, air garden atrium and event spaces for up to 30 people.

The hotel is located on Sussex Street, not moments away from the developing Barangaroo precinct, which is no doubt one of its best selling points.


Opening soon: Club Med Tomamu, Hokkaido

Club Med welcomes the upcoming ski season in Japan with the opening of its latest ski resort Club Med Tomamu.

Located in the popular Hokkaido region, the property is inspired by the region and features a mix of contemporary and traditional design.

Features include easy access to the snow fields, a kids' club and two on-site restaurants and bars.

W Hotels breaks into Rome

The W Hotel brand has its next sights on Italy, securing two historical properties in the Via Veneto area which is within walking distance of tourist attractions including the Spanish Steps. This will be the first W Hotel in Rome and is penned to open in 2021. When it does, it'll be a luxurious stay complete with an Extreme WOW Suite as well as a rooftop bar and event space.

AYANA Resort set to open first 5-star luxury hotel in Komodo

Bound for Bali but searching for somewhere a little less bustling? Try Komodo on the island of Flores. Just an hour flight away, it's set to welcome its first 5-star hotel by the end of 2018. Developed by AYANA Resort, it'll feature luxury unparalleled in the form of three swimming pools, spa treatments, gym access and a kids' club.
