Just opened: PARKROYAL Penang Resort, Penang

PARKROYAL Penang Resort marks a new chapter with the re-opening of the resort this past week after a MYR55 (AUD$17.8) million refurbishment. The property has been located on Batu Ferringhi beach since 1990.

The 308 rooms in the resort have been upgraded and the property now offers 10 options for rooms including the new two-bedroom family seaview units designed for families and groups.

The Cinnamon restaurant and Javana lounge have been refurbished with more comfortable seating, private dining options and more. The resort also features a spa, poolside cafe, swimming pool, kids’ club, gym and tennis court.

Just opened: Abode Murrumbateman, Murrumbateman

The new apartment hotel Abode Murrumbateman welcomed its first guests last week with the official opening of the property just 30 minutes from Canberra.

The property is made up of 50 stylish studio rooms. There are large common spaces, a communal kitchen and a guest lounge.

The elegant hotel’s features aim to make guests relax and enjoy the ultimate food and wine experience via the nearby wineries, local farmers markets, cafes and more.


Just opened: Amara Signature Shanghai, Shanghai

Amara Hotels & Resorts, a luxury Singapore brand, has opened the newest property in Shanghai, a 30-storey 5-star hotel.

The hotel features 343 rooms on the 7th-30th floors with floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the city skyline. The rooms are modern with classic design, spacious bathrooms and well cushioned bedding.

Hotel amenities include a lobby bar, BLU, the on-site restaurant with multiple cuisines, a grab n’ go boutique, business centre, pool and fitness centre.


Just opened: Pods Times Square, New York

Pods Time Square has opened in the middle of all the action in NYC and is the largest Pods Hotel to date. The newest property also introduces the first micro-apartments.

45 Pod Pads that are 600-800 square feet have been designed for those wishing to stay longer. They feature extras such as a fitness centre and a guest lounge on the top floor that is exclusive to Pod Pads guests.

An additional 665 rooms are bunk or queen rooms with high-tech amenities that allow guests to stream content from their smartphones. A Tiki bar, an outdoor space overlooking Times Square and an on-site restaurant are available for guests.

Just opened: The James New York - NoMad - New York

Formerly known as the Carlton Hotel, The James New York - NoMad has opened in a prime location on the corner of 29th Street and Madison Avenue.

It’s a urban retreat in the city that features 360 guestrooms including 28 suites and 2 penthouses. The rooms have simple touches such as meditation cushions, yoga mats and dream interpretation books.

Amenities include the on-site Italian restaurant Scarpetta, meeting and events spaces, in room wellness experiences and a fitness centre.

Opening soon: Belmond Castello di Casole, Casole d’Elsa

Belmond Ltd. has purchased one of the largest luxury properties in Tuscany and is set to refurbish the property over the next 4 years.

The property is easy to reach from Florence or Siena and is made up of 39 rooms but plans include the addition of another two villas.

On the resort property there are vineyards, olive groves and beautiful Tuscan countryside. Amenities include two on-site restaurants, a bar, a fitness centre, a spa and pool.

“GO SOLO” program launched at St Giles Hotels

The new program was launched in Sydney to help solo travellers experience the city. It revolves around a travel microsite that features content curated for the solo traveller, such as best restaurants, bars and tours for singles. A concierge is also available for a more tailored experience. All “GO SOLO” travellers will also receive a backpack, luggage tag and other gifts.

Vibe Hotel Gold Coast to unveil refurbishment in time for Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games

Vibe Hotel Gold Coast has undergone multi-million dollar upgrades. These will be unveiled before the city sees a spike in tourism for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Each of the 199 rooms has received a facelift with pops of colour and the lobby now has a beach house design. A new open-air dining area and a retro Miami pool club with a relaxed ambiance will be developed.
