A weekly roundup of new hotel openings around the world.

We take a look at hotels that have just opened, hotels that are in the works and major hotel changes across the globe.

Just opened: Quest Maribyrnong, Melbourne

Quest Hotels continues its expansion of regional apartments with its fourth location opening in the Melbourne suburb of Maribyrnong last week.

The 78-room apartment style property is designed for business travellers with 1-3 bedroom apartments. The area is well connected to other hotspots in Melbourne such as Footscray and Laverston with the CBD only 8km away. Each room is equipped with a kitchenette.

Amenities include a pantry shopping service so guests don’t have eat out or spend time shopping for food during their busy schedules. Many dining options are also close-by.


Just opened: Canopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District, Portland

The Canopy by Hilton brand officially opened its first property on the USA’s East Coast in Portland’s Pearl District. The area is an industrial zone that is quickly becoming a go-to spot with indie shops and restaurants.

153 rooms have been designed to reflect the surrounding neighbourhood with comfort and function a key in the design as well. Industrial finishes decorate the hotel and each of the rooms is decked out with 2.8m floor-to-ceiling windows.

Meals served at the on-site restaurant use local ingredients, signature cocktails, award-winning wines and the best craft beers from around the USA. Meeting spaces are also available.


Just opened: Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur

Located on the top floors of a building known as The Establishment in the heart of a bustling area in Kuala Lumpur is Alila Bangsar, Alila Hotel & Resorts first property in Malaysia.

The property has 143 guest rooms with designs that are to act as an urban retreat with views over the city, modern colours and decorations and an overall atmosphere that provides relaxation.

Each floor has an Alila living room with free flowing drinks and a dedicated butler. The sky level lobby welcomes guests on the 41st floor and a pool is on the 40th floor with tropical landscaping and views of the city.

Multiple bars and a French restaurant with a 2-star Michelin chef is available for guests on the property.


Opening soon: Perianth Hotel, Athens

Set just off.the tourist trail is the Perianth Hotel. It opens mid-July in a converted 1930s building and is also home to Zen Centre Athens, a space for Eastern philosophy, meditation, yoga and martial arts.

Taking inspiration from the building’s streamline modern exterior with rounded balconies and linear lines, the designers have created a unique hotel with short corridors that lead off from central lounges that are on each floor. Marble furniture and glass elements are used as modern design pieces with curved walls, brass, wood and steel. Each of the 38 guest rooms have private terraces overlooking Athens skyline.

An Italian restaurant in on-site, a spa as well as access to Zen Centre Athens plus meeting rooms.

Opening soon: Punthill Ivanhoe, Melbourne

Punthill, a luxury apartment hotel brand has soft-opened its 14th property in Brisbane and Melbourne with the official opening set for 11 July 2018. Punthill Ivanhoe will be in Ivanhoe, a Melbourne suburb known for its picturesque views.

52 rooms will make up the property with modern features designed to make guests feel like they’re at home in 1-2 bedroom apartments and suites. All of the east-facing rooms feature views of the Dandenong Ranges.

The property is surrounded by a ring of shops and restaurants and is close to public transportation.


Opening soon: Anantara Quy Nhon Villas, Qui Nhon

Anantara has announced an opening date of the brands third luxury resort in Vietnam later this year. Anantara Quy Nhon Villas opens in south central Vietnam in Qui Nhon in mid-November.

The resort will be made up of 26 villas and is designed to blend into its surrounding nature. Villas are made of timber with granite sunducks and minimalist pools. Overall the design is contemporary and spacious.

Luxury can be found around every corner here with butler services, customisable amenities such as in-villa wine cellars with preferred wines and preferred smells soaps. Multiple dining options will also be available including in-villa dining and a spa.


Sage Hotels introduces "Once in a Teepee" adventure for kids

Summer holidays are a lot more fun this year thanks to Sage Hotels "Once in a Teepee" glamping adventure for kids. The program is available at the brand’s locations across the country including Wollongong, West Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane. The adventure includes glamping teepees and take home kids’ robes, activity packs and free meals for kids. Colouring competitions and more will be held too.
