A weekly roundup of new hotel openings around the world.

We take a look at hotels that have just opened, hotels that are in the works and major hotel changes across the globe.


Just opened: Grand Hyatt Manila, Manila

The first Grand Hyatt in the Philippines opened last week and made its debut as the tallest building in the city, delivering panoramic views of the Makati skyline and Manila Bay.

The 461-key property has luxurious rooms featuring bathrooms with a deep, soaking tub, a modern look with earthy tones, a walk-in closet, mirrored walls and floor to ceiling windows.

Three restaurants are on-site serving up a range of international cuisines at one and exceptional Chinese at another. The third restaurant is a bi-level entertainment centre serving cocktails, fine whiskeys and grilled plates at the top of the building. An outdoor space with two pools and a fitness centre complete with whirlpools and steam baths are also on-site.

Just opened: Holiday Inn Lima Airport Hotel, Lima

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened the brand's second property in Peru’s capital city, Lima. The Holiday Inn Lima Airport Hotel is five minutes from the Jorge Chavez Lima International Airport.

The property's 179 rooms are housed in two towers that stand eight storeys high.

The hotel’s amenities include a swimming pool, a fitness centre, nine meeting rooms, a lobby bar, several dining options and free airport shuttle transfers.


Just opened: Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo, Tokyo

The first Hyatt Centric hotel in the Asia-Pacific region was opened last week in Ginza, where travellers will be endlessly entertained.

The 164-room hotel is decorated with art on screens with pieces that change throughout the day. Each guestroom floor is decorated with a different colour palette for a refreshing change each time a guest returns.

On top of the spectacular location that is close to shopping, entertainment and more, the hotel also features an on-site fitness centre and dining.


Just opened: Sheraton Grand Danang Resort, Danang

Located on the sandy shores of the white sand beach of Non Nuoc is the Sheraton Grand Danang Resort in the up-and-coming trendy resort destination in Vietnam.

The property is split between two six-storey buildings and is home to 130 hotel rooms including Ambassador and Presidential suites. All of the rooms are angled towards the beach for stunning views.

Amenities include several dining options with cuisines ranging from Vietnamese to many other Asian dishes. There is a ballroom and outdoor spaces for events, plus a fitness centre, spa and pool.


Opening soon: The Millennials Tokyo, Tokyo

Following the success of The Millennials in Kyoto (pictured above), Global Agents has announced the opening of the brand's second location in Tokyo, opening this March.

The 120-room capsule hotel brings you to the future with high tech facilities and technology in a semi-luxurious hotel. Guests have full control of their capsule units with the iPod touch that is provided at check-in.

The hotel's lobby acts as a space for guests to interact, a kitchen is available for guests and a colourful co-working space was built with an open concept to encourages travellers and entrepreneurs to meet each other. A daily happy hour serves draft beers.


Just opened: Hotel Saranac, Curio Collection by Hilton, Saranac Lake, NY

After a $35-million restoration, the Hotel Saranac has reopened as a part of the Curio Collection by Hilton.

The original hotel opened in 1927, making it an iconic building in the region which drew in many visitors. The hotel has now been upgraded with a modern look and remains the spot to be for surrounding activities in the area.

Amenities have also been upgraded, including the retail arcade, spa, restaurant and more to have features that reflect the region such as pine- and birch-infused spa treatments and a restaurant menu that uses local ingredients.

Four Seasons reveals upcoming plans for 2018

Four Seasons had a record breaking year when it came to openings in 2017 and the hotel brand plans to do even more this coming year. Hotels will be opening next to the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, a second hotel in India in Bengaluru, a debut in Brazil, another hotel in Philadelphia, Greece and a resort in Seychelles. The most notable difference in 2018 will be the introduction of private residences in hotels, a first for Four Seasons.

Tripadvisor's Traveller’s Choice Awards Reveal Australia’s top hotels

Tripadvisor released the 2018 Traveller’s Choice Awards and congratulated Pinetrees Lodge on Lord Howe Island in New South Wales for coming out on top two years in a row. Runners up include Como the Treasury in Perth and Ovolo Woolloomooloo in Sydney.
