Elves, orcs, and magic abound in a new trailer for Netflix’s Bright

Will Smith and Joel Edgerton lead the cast in Netflix's first blockbuster movie.

As part of the torrent of entertainment news streaming out of San Diego Comic-Con, Netflix has released the first full-length trailer for its upcoming original fantasy movie Bright. Starring Will Smith and Australia's own Joel Edgerton, the film is set to be Netflix's first foray into blockbuster movies, and the trailer certainly doesn't skimp on the scale and grandeur we've come to expect out of Hollywood movies.

Bright takes place in an alternate version of the present day where the likes of orcs, elves, and other magical creatures co-exist with human beings. Will Smith plays the role of an LAPD police officer partnered up with a decidedly creepy-looking orc played by Joel Edgerton, and the pair inadvertently get tangled up in a battle over a magic wand capable of granting any wish the holder desires.

With Max Landis (Chronicle, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency) writing the script and David Ayer (Fury, Suicide Squad) directing, Bright's combination of traditional gang warfare and flashy magic looks set to make it an intriguing departure from the typical fantasy film.

Bright will release exclusively on Netflix on 22 December.
