Grace and Frankie

Available: 8th May

Here's one to get excited about: another Netflix Original, Grace and Frankie is your not-so-typical tale of former enemies turned unlikely allies, when Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) discover their husbands are gay, and are leaving them for each other. Considering its from the creators of Friends, previous Netflix originals include smash hits House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, AND you get to watch JANE FONDA deal with the fact that her husband no longer finds her sexually attractive, you'd be silly not to give at least a couple episodes a go.

Available: 21st May

Imagine: you wake up to a town where everyone over the age of 21 has died of a mysterious diseases. That's the premise of Between, a survivalist thriller people that's asks what happens when the government quarantines kids and teenagers and leaves them to fend for themselves? We're getting Walking Dead meets Battle Royal vibes from this one.

Jen Kirkman: I'm Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Alone)

Available: 22nd May

Netflix is getting a reputation as the platform for side splitting stand-up. Jen Kirkman, best known for her appearances on Chelsea lately and the award-winning web series Drunk History, is the latest addition to that line up. Comedy gold.

Hot Girls Wanted

Available: 29th May

Sorry to disappoint, but Netflix isn't getting porn – but it IS getting an unprecedented glimpse into the porn industry. Hot Girls Wanted is produced by Rashida Jones (best known for Parks and Recreation), and is an unflinching look into a world rarely accessed by outsiders. After it's debut at Sundance Film Festival, it's premiering internationally on Netflix in May.

Granite Flats, Series 1–3

Available: May 14th

Shawshank Redemption

Available: May 31st

It's not a stretch to say Shawshank is one of the best movies ever made. Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sentenced to two life terms in prison for murders he didn't commit. Red (Morgan Freeman) is serving time for crimes he did. An likely friendship in a harsh place. IMDb rating: 9.3

Michael Clayton

Available: May 31st

George Clooney stars as the "fixer", the guy who does the dirty work his corporate law firm won't touch. He's bound to the job, especially when one of the lawyers (Tom Wilkinson) breaks down due to guilt at the worst possible time. IMDb rating: 7.3

Training Day

Available: April 30th

Rookie cop Jake Hoyte (Ethan Hawke) gets his shot at the big time: joining the elite narcotics squad. For one day he gets to ride along with the morally corrupt senior Detective Sargeant Alonzo Harris – and it might just his last. IMDb rating: 7.7

New Kids Movies & TV Shows Coming to Netflix

The Adventures of Puss in Boots (Series one with five additional episodes)

Available: May 8th

Remember Puss in Boots from Shrek 2? Now he has his own TV show, courtesy of Netflix. IMDb rating: 6.9

Mr Richie Rich (Series two)

Available: May 22nd

It's not the movie you loved as a kid, but it's based off the same books: Richie Rich has a self-made fortune from (what else) an innovative clean energy technology, and gets up to all kinds of adventures. Note the $ sign replacing the 'S' in every episode title. IMDb rating: 2.8

School of Rock

Available: May 31st

One of Jack Black's better movies, School of Rock is the tale of a wannabe rock star fakes his way into an elementary school teacher job and – of course – starts a band. IMDb rating: 7.1

Dr Seuss' The Cat in the Hat

Available: May 31st

Based of course on the classic children's book, The Cat in the Hat is a live-action film starring Mike Myers as The Cat, who turns up at the home of siblings Sally (Dakota Fanning) and Conrad Walden (Spencer Breslin) and leads them astray. IMDb rating: 3.8
