Where to buy Netflix gift cards in Australia

Netflix gift cards are now available nationwide. Here's how you can buy them online and in-store.

Want to buy the gift of entertainment?

In the past this idea might have been limited to purchases some Gold Class movie tickets or the latest boxset DVD. Head's up: the future is here! You can now buy the gift of their favourite TV shows and movies ALL YEAR LONG.

With access to Netflix being as little as $8.99 per month, you can afford to give them 365
days (or even more) of the streaming service by giving them a Netflix gift card for whatever occasion they're celebrating.

Want all the TV shows and movies? You can get a free trial with each of the streaming internet tv providers below:

What Netflix gift cards are available?

Netflix gift cards are available in denominations of $20, $30 or $50. This shouldn't stop you however from buying multiple gift cards to whatever denomination you require.

Where can I buy Netflix gift cards?

Netflix gift cards are currently available through the following outlets:

  • 7-Eleven: All 7-Eleven stores nationwide now sell Netflix gift cards. If you're a Netflix account holder, you can locate your closest 7-Eleven by going to your account and clicking on the 'Where to buy gift cards' prompt on the bottom right corner of the page. Alternately, you can search for your closest 7-Eleven selling Netflix gift cards here.

In the future, the following outlets will also sell Netflix gift cards:

  • Woolworths
  • Coles
  • Big-W
  • EB Games (landing date is predicted to be April 6)
  • Australia Post
  • Officeworks

Whether the cards will be available to purchase online is still to be confirmed, but we'll keep you up to date as news comes in.

Can I buy a Netflix subscription?

At the moment, the ability to purchase subscriptions for others from your Australian Netflix account is not available. However, this could change in the future.

As an aside, if you've been given a subscription gift from someone else (say, from overseas) you will still be able to redeem it in Australia. Simply go to the 'Redeem Your Gift' at the bottom of the Netflix homepage and enter your code in the box provided.

How do I redeem my Netflix gift card?

If you've been given an Australian Netflix gift card, redeeming it is easy. First, you'll need to create an account with Netflix. To do this, simply click the 'Start Your Free Month' button on the homepage. You will then need to register your details, including your payment options (don't worry, you won't be charged), to create your account. You'll automatically be given a one month free trial for whichever package you decide to subscribe to.

Once your account is active, you can choose to wait the month until you redeem your gift card, or you can redeem it instantly by going to your Account (top right hand corner) and inputting your card's code/PIN into the 'Gifts and Offers' field at the bottom of your account's landing page.

If you don’t have a bank card can you stream Netflix only through gift cards and if so, on a smart tv with capability – how long do the cards last?

      Hi Erin,

Thanks for leaving a question on finder. Yes you can use Netflix gift cards if you don’t have a bank account. The gift cards don’t expire. So as long as the gift card amount is enough for one month, for instance, $9.99, you can use it on held accounts and it can be used in any country with Netflix.

You can stream Netflix for as long as your gift card balance lasts. You will be sent via email a notification when your gift card balance is low on your account and you will still be able to stream movies and TV shows for a partial month. Once you’ve consumed your balance, you’d need to add another gift card or payment method to your account to continue service.

If you need anything else, please send us a message anytime.

      Hello Brad,

      Thanks for your question.

Yes you may use gift cards as a form of payment to your Netflix subscription. You may even use more than one gift card and your balance will increase with each gift card you add. You may check your Billing Details page to see your available balance.

In addition, you will receive service for as long as your gift card balance lasts. We will remind you by email when your gift card balance is low on your account and you will be able to stream movies and TV shows for a partial month. Once your gift card balance is consumed, you will need to add another gift card or payment method to your account to continue service.

      I hope this helps.

I already have a Netflix account and my credit card is directly debited to pay my monthly fee. I was given a Netflix gift card, can I use this to pay my membership fee instead of my credit card? How can I redeem this Netflix gift card?

      Hi Riv!

      Thank you for visiting Finder.com.au.

      Yes, you can.

Just login to your Netflix account and enter your gift card code on the Your Account page. The balance of your gift card will be added to your account and your next payment will be taken from the gift card balance.

      Hope this helps!

How much time does a $50 gift card buy ?

    • Staff
      BrodieMay 23, 2016Staff

      Hi Ken,

That depends on which Netflix plan you subscribe to. If you’re registered for the $8.99 per month (basic), $50 will get you five months worth of Netflix. When you buy a gift card, you are purchasing a dollar amount to use for your monthly bill.

I buy a $20 card each month and use the $14.99 does the left over $5 accumulate… If so how do I use it..

    • Staff
      BrodieJanuary 29, 2016Staff

      Hi Sue,

Yes, your remaining balance accumulates on your account. If you’re purchasing $20 gift cards, simply skip every fourth payment (as you would have accumulated enough for a free month after three payments).

Can I use a Netflix card to set up an account without giving credit card details.

    • Staff
      BrodieJanuary 4, 2016Staff

      Hi Carol,

Unfortunately, you do need to provide credit card details to sign up to Netflix Australia. Netflix is a subscription service. Without credit card details as identification, users could exploit the free 1-month trial that everyone gets on sign-up by simply starting a new account every month. Though you need a credit card to sign up, you can avoid paying your monthly bill on credit card by purchasing Netflix gift cards.

    • Staff
      StephanieDecember 30, 2015Staff

      Hi Tracey,

      Yes, you can.

If you already have a Netflix account, you can also enter your gift card code on the Your Account page. The balance of your gift card will be added to your account and your next payment will be taken from the gift card balance.

      Hope this helps!

why does Netflix want my credit card details when I am subscribing to a FREE month. This is a pain in the arse. It is preventing me from getting Netflix. These people who set these methods in place should use their brains for a change.

    • Staff
      BrodieOctober 12, 2015Staff

      Hi Kenn,

Though you’re asked to register your credit card details at sign up, Netflix will not charge you until after the free month is up. This is mostly for convenience. If you like the service, you simply let it roll on; if not you can easily cancel the service after the free month.
