No matter how well you know your friends and family, you've probably found yourself stumped over what to buy them at some point in your life. And as the years go by, it can become increasingly difficult to find the perfect gift that your loved one hasn't already bought for themselves.
This is where gift cards come in. More personal and meaningful than straight-up cash yet more practical than a generic box of chocolates, gift cards are ideal for everyone from acquaintances to your cherished partner.
It's not just the big retail chains getting in on the gift card craze either. Virtually any physical store, online retailer or digital service supports the handy format these days, even Australia's favourite entertainment service Netflix.
Yep, you can now take care of birthdays, Christmases and any other special occasions by buying a prepaid dose of Netflix goodness. Simply purchase a Netflix gift card of your preferred denomination and the lucky recipient will be able to redeem it for the Netflix subscription of their choice. It doesn't matter if they're already subscribed to Netflix either – in that case, the card will simply add the desired number of months to their existing subscription.
Netflix gift cards are available in denominations of $20, $30, $50, $100, $150 and $250. You can also purchase multiple gift cards and redeem them to the same account to stock up on a Netflix subscription if you desire.
Netflix gift cards are currently available from a wide range of outlets, including the following:
If you've been given an Australian Netflix gift card, redeeming it is easy. Just go to netflix.com/redeem and enter the 11-digit code from your gift card into the box presented and press redeem. Enter the email address associated with your account, or to create a new account. A confirmation screen will appear, then you can start watching or start membership, depending on whether you're already subscribed to Netflix. Best of all, you won't have to enter any payment details as part of the sign-up process; the gift card will suffice as all the payment information required to start streaming.
Existing Netflix subscribers will want to be aware of one unusual quirk with Netflix gift cards: If you're subscribed to the service through Google Play or Apple, you won't be able to redeem any Netflix gift cards to your account. Instead, you'll need to cancel your existing account and start a fresh one with a gift card, which is hardly an ideal solution.
Thankfully, Netflix gift cards aren't like many other gift cards out there since they last forever – there's no expiry and you can stockpile them for a rainy day.
If you've only got a couple of dollars left on your Netflix gift card, don't worry, you can still get your fill of BoJack Horseman. Netflix will simply extend your subscription for as long as the remaining balance covers, even if that's only part of a month.

I do not have a bank account or credit card. Can I still get Netflix if I buy/use Netflix cards? I ask this question as I have read conflicting online info regarding this.
Hi DC,
Thanks for reaching out to Finder.
Yes, you can use Netflix Gift Cards to pay for a new subscription or for an existing Netflix account. Netflix will deduct the appropriate amount from your gift card balance based on the plan you’ve chosen.
If you are eligible for a free trial, you will receive a free month of service, in addition to the amount of the gift card. After the free month, Netflix will start to deduct the monthly charge for your plan from your gift card balance.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Charisse
If you don’t have a bank card can you stream Netflix only through gift cards and if so, on a smart tv with capability – how long do the cards last?
Hi Erin,
Thanks for leaving a question on finder. Yes you can use Netflix gift cards if you don’t have a bank account. The gift cards don’t expire. So as long as the gift card amount is enough for one month, for instance, $9.99, you can use it on held accounts and it can be used in any country with Netflix.
You can stream Netflix for as long as your gift card balance lasts. You will be sent via email a notification when your gift card balance is low on your account and you will still be able to stream movies and TV shows for a partial month. Once you’ve consumed your balance, you’d need to add another gift card or payment method to your account to continue service.
If you need anything else, please send us a message anytime.
Cheers,
Joel

My credit card is over limit and can’t use the card can I buy gift card and still use my credit card details to access the voucher
Hello Brad,
Thanks for your question.
Yes you may use gift cards as a form of payment to your Netflix subscription. You may even use more than one gift card and your balance will increase with each gift card you add. You may check your Billing Details page to see your available balance.
In addition, you will receive service for as long as your gift card balance lasts. We will remind you by email when your gift card balance is low on your account and you will be able to stream movies and TV shows for a partial month. Once your gift card balance is consumed, you will need to add another gift card or payment method to your account to continue service.
I hope this helps.
Cheers!

I already have a Netflix account and my credit card is directly debited to pay my monthly fee. I was given a Netflix gift card, can I use this to pay my membership fee instead of my credit card? How can I redeem this Netflix gift card?
Thanks!
Hi Riv!
Thank you for visiting Finder.com.au.
Yes, you can.
Just login to your Netflix account and enter your gift card code on the Your Account page. The balance of your gift card will be added to your account and your next payment will be taken from the gift card balance.
Hope this helps!
