Like its sibling, Nest Cam Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor is a smart security camera designed to be your eyes and ears at home when you're at work, on holiday or away from your house for any reason at all. With built-in Wi-Fi, Nest Cam Outdoor can stream everything it sees and hears to you live over the Internet. Don't worry if you don't have time to check in on it regularly, though; Nest Cam Outdoor will alert you automatically if it notices something's amiss. That way, you can focus on other matters while still being kept in the loop.
As you might have guessed from the name, Nest Cam Outdoor can withstand the punishment of the great outdoors, whether it is rain, hail or shine. Along with a weatherproof camera head, it sports a 4.5m weatherproof power cable you won't have to worry about leaving out in the rain. And if you're not too keen on drilling holes in the architrave, you can simply stick Nest Cam Outdoor on any metallic surface using the included magnetic mount.
Once installed, Nest Cam Outdoor streams its video and audio feed to your online Nest account 24/7, letting you check up on your house any time you want. All footage is captured in clear 1080p, making it easy to pick out important details when the need arises.
Thankfully, you don't need to monitor your house 24/7 to know it's safe—Nest Cam Outdoor does that for you. If it detects any unexpected movement or suspicious sounds, it'll send you an alert instantly with a photo of the event so you can assess it for yourself. If you miss an alert, you can always go back and review the last three hours of logged events in the Nest app.
Should you catch a stranger poking around your house, Nest Cam Outdoor gives you a weapon to fight back with. Using the built-in speaker, you can shout them off before they decide to do anything foolish. On a lighter note, you can also use the integrated microphone to chat with that old friend who's dropped by for a visit while you're out.
If you're looking for even more peace of mind, Nest offers a subscription service called Nest Aware that bolsters Nest Cam Outdoor's capabilities with enhanced image analysis provided through the cloud. Nest Aware subscribers can take advantage of this by setting Nest Cam Outdoor to only alert them when it detects a person, rather than a pet or an inanimate object. They can also highlight particular zones of interest within Nest Cam's vision that it should prioritise with additional alerts.
A Nest Aware subscription also augments Nest Cam Outdoor with cloud storage for up to 30 days' worth of recorded video. At any point, you can access that footage and scan through it for important moments. You can even create clips from the footage to share with other people—just in case your dog does something funny you simply have to share with your colleagues at work.
Like all Nest products, Nest Cam Outdoor works alongside a large number of other smart home devices. Nest Cam Outdoor can connect with SkyBell video doorbells to tell them to start recording when Nest Cam Outdoor detects movement at the front door. Or if you have Lutron Caseta smart lights, you can instruct Nest Cam Outdoor to turn them on at the sight of a stranger to make it look like you're home, even when you're not.
Nest Cam Outdoor is now available for purchase here in Australia. It is currently exclusive to iSelect's online store where you can purchase one on its own or as part of a bundle.
