What is Nest Aware?
Nest Aware is a subscription-based security service offered by the smart device manufacturer Nest. It works in conjunction with Nest's line of security cameras, upgrading their capabilities with cloud-computing algorithms and online storage.
What does Nest Aware do?
A Nest Aware subscription adds a number of extra features to Nest's range of cameras. For Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor specifically, it grants them the smarts to tell the difference between people and inanimate objects. Since the premium Nest Cam IQ already supports that function on its own, it gains the facility to recognise familiar faces and tailor its alerts based on who it sees.
All Nest Cams enjoy the benefit of online video storage with Nest Aware. Everything a Nest Cam sees and hears is recorded for posterity in the cloud, with the two different Nest Aware subscription tiers offering either 10 days' or 30 days' worth of storage capacity. Additionally, each day's footage is presented in a simple timeline to make it easier to find what you're looking for, with a time-lapse feature for compressing every 24-hour period into just a handful of seconds in case you don't have time to skim through an entire day's video.
Nest Aware also lets you highlight key areas within a Nest Cam's line of sight that you want it to pay extra attention to. Any noise or movement in these activity zones will trigger a special alert, ensuring you know whenever someone opens your front door or whenever your dog climbs up onto the good couch.
What devices does Nest Aware work with?
Nest Aware only functions with Nest's own smart security cameras. The current supported models are Nest Cam Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor and Nest Cam IQ.
Is Nest Aware available in Australia?
Nest has recently partnered with iSelect to bring its products and services to Australia. As such, Nest Aware is available exclusively through iSelect.
How much does Nest Aware cost?
There are three subscription tiers for Nest Aware, with the only difference between them being their video storage capacity. The $7/month tier stores footage for 5 days, the $14/month tier stores footage for 10 days and the $30/month tier stores footage for 30 days.
