What is Nervos Network?

Nervos Network is an open-source public blockchain ecosystem and collection of protocols that is geared towards solving blockchain problems. According to the whitepaper, the Nervous Network aims to be the foundational layer of the whole ecosystem, which developers and users can utilise to move across blockchains. It achieves this by implementing a layered blockchain approach.

The Nervos Common Knowledge Base (CKB) is a layer-1 Proof-of-Work (PoW) public blockchain that provides decentralisation and security. The layer-1 works in conjunction with layer-2 protocols to provide the scaling solutions required for the system.

CKByte (Common Knowledge Byte, or CKB) is the native token of the Nervos Network. The CKB token was developed to capture network value through a "store of value" design. It gives users the ability to occupy a piece of the blockchain’s overall state. A user that holds CKB can create a cell with bytes in capacity and can use those bytes to store assets or other types of common knowledge. Miners are compensated with block rewards and transaction fees in the form of CKB tokens. CKB holders can earn staking rewards by depositing and locking their tokens into a special inflation shelter called the Nervos DAO.
