Motorola Edge 30 Pro: Australian price, specs and release date

The Motorola Edge 30 Pro has been announced. Here's what you need to know, including price, features and when you can get your hands on it.
The much-rumoured Motorola Edge 30 Pro has finally been confirmed by the company. It seems it will be closely based on a phone Chinese customers have been enjoying for a few months now, the Edge X30. Here's everything we know about the phone's Australian release so far.
Motorola Edge 30 Pro price
Motorola has been known for budget Android offerings, but that's not what's on the table with the Edge 30 Pro. The 30 Pro's main 12GB RAM/256GB storage edition will be priced at EUR€799 throughout Europe. That translates to AUD$1,250. The peculiarities of international supply chains and commerce mean that's not a concrete answer, but it should be a solid guide.
Motorola Edge 30 Pro release date
The fact that Motorola has yet to mention Australia with regards to the Edge 30 Pro suggests a bit of a wait might be in store following this announcement. One of the only countries lucky enough to currently have a locked-in release date is India, where store shelves will carry the phone from 4 March.
At this point, we can only hope we aren't waiting too long for this new release.
Motorola Edge 30 Pro features
As mentioned above, the Edge 30 Pro is essentially the same as China's X30. That means a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 generation 1 chip, a 6.7-inch pOLED 2400x1080 display with a 144Hz refresh rate, plus Android 12. At present, Motorola has only committed to supporting a further 2 generations of Android OS.
In terms of camera, you can look forward to playing around with a 50MP triple rear camera and an exciting 60MP selfie camera with auto smile capture that automatically takes a photo when all the subjects are smiling. Dolby Atmos will be providing beautiful surround sound.
The phone will also support Motorola's Smart Stylus, though pricing and Australian availability are still an open question.
The major difference between the X30 and the Edge 30 Pro is a downgrade in battery size, from 5,000mAh to 4,800mAh, though it will support 68W fast charging and wireless charging. The other significant change is in form, with slightly altered, stockier dimensions.
While this phone has plenty of bells and whistles to justify the price tag, Motorola phones are synonymous with great value. At present, that doesn't necessarily appear to be what's on offer here. At the same time, there's doesn't seem to be anything to dissuade big-time Motorola fans from enjoying this model, provided they have a bit of spare change.
