Not sure what to get for your loved ones this year? Here's what Australians are wishing for at Christmas.

Do you struggle to work out exactly what to get your family and friends for Christmas? Most of us do. So this year Gumtree decided to survey the Australian population to work out exactly what we all want this year.

Gumtree spokesperson Kirsty Dunn chatted to us about the survey's findings and what Australians want to see under their trees this year.

"We asked Australia what was on their wishlist this year and we came out with a top 10 list. We’ve called it the Gumtree Collection," she said. "So number one the list is actually jewellery this year, followed by clothing and then there’s a bunch of electronics items which I guess are not too surprising."

Top 10 most desired Christmas presents 2016

  • Jewellery
  • Clothing
  • Tablet
  • Smartphone
  • Camera
  • Smart Watch
  • Headphones
  • Barbeque
  • Bike
  • Home accessories

"Then there was a barbeque, so not surprising with summer and Christmas being at the same time. A bike as well was on the list and then home accessories things like cushions, throws and paintings and pieces of arts and that kind of thing," she said.

If you're concerned that these gifts seem a little too pricey for your budget, know that all these items can be bought on Gumtree for less than the recommended retail price. In fact, Gumtree set itself a challenge to buy these most wanted gifts on Gumtree and save.

"We managed to save up to 40% in some cases," she said.

"When Australians told us that they wanted a camera we had a search for a latest model Canon camera. We found one second-hand. The recommended retail price was $1000 and we found it for $600 so a massive saving of 40%."

And just because it's listed at second-hand doesn't mean it's in poor condition. As a matter of fact, 20% of the items listed on Gumtree are brand new with the tags and receipts. As for second-hand items like the Canon Camera, many of them are in like-new condition and still come with the box.

"Yes, the camera is second-hand but it’s still in the box and the owner has kept it in pristine condition and each individual part of the camera has got its own packaging still and all of the manuals and everything is still there. So if you could save up to 40% on a Canon camera it pays to think about Gumtree this Christmas and to have a search and see what’s there."
