Most popular Australia Day holiday destinations for 2019, revealed
It's a 3-day weekend but not all of us are spending it in our backyards.
Australia Day is knocking on our doors and as it falls on a Saturday this year (tomorrow to be exact) anyone who's anyone is rejoicing because that means one thing: a 3-day weekend.
Hurrah!
While some will be chilling at home (my hand's up) or taking to the road, others are taking to the skies for a cheeky getaway.
Though most of us aren't going too far.
Bookings made through Skyscanner departing Friday 25 January 2019 and returning Monday 28 January 2019 put Melbourne on the top of our lists to spend the weekend.
Sydney, Perth and Brisbane folk are particularly keen on this trip – and it isn't costing them too much either. Brisbanites on average paid $260 return for their economy seat while Sydneysiders shelled out an average of $289 return.
Perthians had to splash the cash to get there, paying an average of $487 return. This might sound a lot but considering the cheapest flights you could catch if you booked your trip today is $582 return, it's about standard particularly for a trip booked early enough in advance.
Queensland is the other favourite for this weekend with both Sydney and Melbourne folks soaking up a lot of sun on the Gold Coast and Brisbane. They paid between $261-$316 to get there and back.
No international destinations made it onto the list of top 10 routes booked for the weekend despite there being quite a few places Aussies can visit in under 4 hours. Here's the list, in no particular order, including the average price Aussies paid for their tickets:
