Most common hospital claims for men
Men’s Health Week: Medibank highlights the top five most common hospital claims for men at different life stages.
Australian men are most likely to claim diagnostic GI endoscopy on their private hospital cover, according to the latest research from Medibank.
The study reviewed the top five most common hospital claims for men at various age groups: 20s through to 70+. Diagnostic GI endoscopy was the only treatment commonly to make the top five claims for each life stage.
Orthopaedics was the second most common claim, featuring in five out of six of the life stages.
Urology and rehabilitation tied for third appearing on four top five lists.
The study was released to coincide with Men's Health Week and highlight the fact that men need to be taking better care of themselves.
“While data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that Australian men are living longer than ever before, they’re still engaging more than woman in the riskier behaviour that can lead to chronic diseases – like smoking, alcohol consumption and weight gain leading to obesity," said Medibank medical advisor Dr Sue Abhary.
One of the claims that stood out was drug and alcohol treatment for those in their 30s.
“In our data, that’s reflected by the fact that we see a lot of claims for drug and alcohol related services for men in their 30s," said Abhary.
