How Monopoly’s latest board game is helping Australian communities in need
The limited edition Australian Community Relief game is raising much needed funds for Aussies affected by bushfires, floods and COVID-19.
If you're a big fan of games night, Monopoly has just released a new version of its popular board game that you'll want to add to your collection.
Titled Australian Community Relief, the limited edition game focuses on Australian communities that have been impacted by various disasters throughout the year, including bushfires, floods and COVID-19.
Instead of the usual themed squares of Mayfair and Trafalgar Square, the new iteration gets a local update, with tiles featuring communities such as Batemans Bay, Gippsland and Port Augusta. The standard "Chance" and "Community Chest" playing cards have also received a customised twist to make the game a touch more Aussie.
In addition to highlighting some of the communities affected by disaster this year, Monopoly will also be donating $5 from each game sold directly to The Australian Red Cross, which provides financial aid and support for Australians in need.
An Australian Community Relief Monopoly 1000-Piece Puzzle is also now available, with $2 from every game sold also going to The Australian Red Cross.
A representative from Winning Moves Australia, the game's manufacturer, has said in a release, "We wanted to provide Australians with something positive in the challenging year that is 2020, and highlight how incredible our own backyard is, whilst also supporting Australians in need."
"The communities chosen have all gone through a tough time for one reason or another as everyone has in 2020 and we thought they deserved something special to remind everyone how incredible they are, and help inject some positive spirit through the Australian Community Relief MONOPOLY game."
