Money Hack: Save 8% on Hotels.com bookings with a Visa card

Amy Bradney-George 28 April 2018 NEWS

If you have a Visa credit card, debit card or even a prepaid card, this offer could save you a lot of money on hotel stays booked before the end of the year.

Accommodation takes up a big chunk of most people's travel budgets and, in some cases, could even cost more than your airfares. While you can often find a great deal by comparing different hotel prices, websites or even looking at options such as Airbnb, this Visa offer gives you a quick and simple way to save money on Hotels.com bookings just by paying with an eligible card.

Update: Clarified details of the offer terms and conditions on 1 May 2018, with additional information included below.

The Hack

To get your 8% discount, you’ll need to make your booking online through www.hotels.com/visa by 31 December 2018 and enter the code VISA8 at the checkout. Your hotel stays must also be completed by 31 March 2019.

To add the offer code, you’ll need to enter your card details, then click on “Apply a coupon”, which is to the right of the card details (under the details of the total price). It took me a while to figure this out the first time, so make sure you do it before clicking the “Buy now” button at the bottom of the payment page.

There are a few other key details to keep in mind with this offer. For starters, it only applies to the hotel room rate, so you may still have to pay other taxes and fees. It also can't be combined with other offers and is not available for IHG, Starwood and Marriott group hotels.

Another point to keep in mind: if you're a member of the Hotels.com rewards program, your bookings using this code won't count towards Rewards nights. To avoid confusion, these nights were previously known as Welcome Rewards, which is how they're referred to in the terms and conditions. You can check out the Visa Offers website for full details on this promotion.

Unlike some other Visa Premium offers, this particular deal is open to anyone with an eligible Visa card issued in the Asia Pacific (including Australia), Central Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Canada and the US. So your everyday debit card or even a prepaid card could be used, as well as any Visa credit card.

While 8% might not seem like much at first glance, it can make a big difference. For example, if you were planning to stay 10 nights overseas for $3,000, this discount would save you $240. Or, if you decided to book a swish hotel for New Year’s Eve, you could find the 8% off brings more options into your price range. You can also check out other hotel deals to see how they compare to Hotels.com options once the 8% discount is applied.

      Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for leaving a question on finder.

Unfortunately, you can only use one coupon per transaction and you can not combine coupon codes. If you have any other questions, you can send us a message anytime.

      Cheers,
