Whether you prefer to shop in-store or online, this hack could save you serious cash.

Do you know that feeling? You've just bought yourself a new pair of jeans and a few days later you walk passed a different store and see the same pair for less money. It's annoying and we've all been there. But, this doesn't have to happen anymore. Not now that we're all carrying around a small computer in our pockets.

The hack

Whenever you're about to make a purchase, Google it first. Most of the time you can find a cheaper price.

Don't think this works? Well, Amazon has just patented technology to prevent people from Google searching items they stock while in its stores.

Maybe you're about to buy new shoes or even a new coffee table. Whatever it is, just type the name of the item into Google before you commit to buying. You'll be shocked to see what comes up.

These days there are so many stores all competing for your attention that you can find seriously low prices if you only look. Plus, so many stores stock all the same brands. For example, I can name at least 10 stores that stock Dermalogica products including , ry.com.au, Facial Co. and Skincarestore, and each of these runs loads of different sales and promotions. Rather than heading to each site to compare, a simple Google search of the exact product name will turn up all the Australian stockists and the best price.

As an example, I found a really lovely leather jacket on THE ICONIC for $400 but it was a bit more than I wanted to spend. When I Googled the name of the jacket, it came up on the Oxford website for $220. The exact same one, but Oxford just had a better sale.

Plus, a Google search will turn up all the Gumtree and eBay results – something that many just don't think to look at. I was once in Forever New buying a white blazer. Before I went to the counter I did a quick search on my phone and found the exact blazer on eBay for $40. I was literally about to pay $120. So, I bought the blazer on my phone and hung the one in my hand back on the rack.

So next you're dead set on a pretty dress or a new bronzer, Google it. You'll probably find a better price and you might discover a store you never thought to shop at.
