Yes, even if you ARE an existing customer.

Uber customers and lovers will know that once you've signed up and used your initial of free $20 credit, further discounts are hard to come by. That is, unless you have a lot of friends who haven't yet caught wind of the rideshare app that you can refer for bonus credit.

That's not me.

If it's not you either then you might (read, will) be happy to hear there is another way for you to save on your next Uber ride.

The hack

Buy discounted credit. Yup, pre-buy credit that's on sale.

It's practically free money and right now daily deals site Groupon is giving the cash away by selling Uber credit for a fraction of the price.

On the surface, new customers get the sweeter deal here with $25 worth of credit for a measly $5. And while 80% off your ride sounds like a bargain, it's actually just your run-of-the-mill standard Uber deal as new customers automatically get $20 free credit anyway using this promo code. So it might just be better going with the code and not having to spend on extra credit you may or may not use.

Cue the existing customers because this is where the bargain really lies with $10 worth of credit on sale for $5. Or 50% off. Whichever way you choose to math it.

So what's the catch?

Follow the fine print and you'll discover that this deal is for a limited time only, so you need to get on it quick if you think you'll make the most of it. You also need to take your journey by 11:59pm AEDT on 31 October 2017. That's just under two weeks away, so consider carefully if you have any mandatory trips to make with Uber between now and then before you buy.

The big clincher is that there's a limit of one voucher per person (ouch!) but to be fair, you only have two weeks to use it, so it might be better to not rack up credit that you won't use.

Vouchers are valid for journeys in Australian cities where Uber exists, and if you're a new member, you have to sign up to the app to redeem it.

When you're ready, head to Groupon to grab your voucher.

Once purchased, you'll receive a code which you'll need to attach to your Uber account before you take your ride. Existing customers can do this by going to payment options, hitting the promotions tab and applying the code where prompted. For new customers, you'll be prompted when you open your account to input any promotional codes then.

Then it's time to sit back and enjoy the ride.
