Money Hack: Earn money as a pet sitter with Mad Paws

Posted: 21 February 2018 9:39 am

Play with people’s pets and get some extra cash in your spare time with this secure and flexible service.

If you want more furry friends in your life or a bit of extra income, becoming a pet-sitter could help you feed two birds with one hand. While there are many different pet-sitting services you can register with, some have membership fees or time and rating requirements that will hobble you if you can’t commit regularly.

The hack

Mad Paws is a Sydney-based startup that connects you with pet owners in your local area. It’s free to sign up and you can choose your own hours, the services you want to offer and even the types of pets you’d like to look after.

So if you’re more a cat person than a dog person, that’s fine. You can also choose whether you pet sit at the owner’s house, host pets at your home or offer both options. There’s also a range of other services you can offer, such as house visits, dog walking and dog grooming.

As well as the services you offer, you get to choose how much you charge. Keep in mind that Mad Paws charges a fee worth 20% of your payment. This is taken out of the total paid by the pet owner at the end of each job. For example, if you booked a pet-sitting job for $300, you’d get paid a total of $240 after the 20% fee was deducted.

As well as these features, Mad Paws offers marketing and advertising tools, public liability insurance and emergency customer support services. There’s also an inbuilt calendar that you can update to suit your availability, as well as the chance to connect with owners before you accept a job.

With the flexibility to choose your own hours and set your own rates, as well as an easy payment system, Mad Paws gives you a way to play with pets as much or as little as you want. The only cost involved is the 20% fee, which is a pretty standard rate compared to other pet-sitting services (although you could compare others if you like).
