Money Hack: Earn frequent flyer points on food delivery orders

Here’s how you can get a serving of Velocity or Qantas Points when you order food through Deliveroo or Menulog.

Whether it’s dinner, lunch, breakfast or brunch, apps like Deliveroo, Menulog, Uber Eats and Foodora have made it easy to get food delivered to your door with just a few taps of your phone. It’s actually so convenient that most of us spend around $1,590 a year ordering food.

But what many people don’t realise is that your food orders through Menulog or Deliveroo can also lead to more points for your Velocity or Qantas frequent flyer accounts respectively.

The hack

If you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you can earn points when you order food through Deliveroo. This partnership offers you 1,000 Qantas Points when you download the Deliveroo app (or register via deliveroo.com.au), add your frequent flyer number and place your first order. After that, you can earn 200 Qantas Points per calendar month when you make at least four orders in that time.

This means you could earn up to 2,400 Qantas Points in a year for your Deliveroo orders, plus an extra 1,000 Qantas Points in the first year. It’s worth checking how often you do place food orders though, as four times per month may not always be kind to your bank balance.

Meanwhile, if you’re a Velocity Frequent Flyer member you can earn 2 points per $1 spent with Menulog. To earn points, you need to log in to the Velocity eStore (estore.velocityfrequentflyer.com) using your frequent flyer account details, search for Menulog then click “Shop now” and follow the links to place your order.

Based on the average person spending $1,590 per year on food delivery, this means you could earn 3,180 Velocity Points every year through Menulog. Just keep in mind that every order would have to be made through the Velocity eStore, instead of the Menulog app – and you can’t claim points for orders that aren’t made through the eStore.
