Money Hack: How to get 20,000 more Velocity Points
Exclusive to finder: Score 70,000 bonus Velocity Points with the American Express Velocity Platinum card.
Want to earn 20,000 more Velocity Points without spending any extra cash? Of course you do. The American Express Velocity Platinum card usually boasts 50,000 bonus Velocity Points, but finder users can pick up 70,000 bonus points this month. That's enough points to fly one way from Sydney to LA in premium economy, return from Sydney to Fiji in business class or Melbourne to Auckland in business class (just to give you a few ideas!). Find out how you can get your bonus Velocity Points below.
The hack
If you apply for the American Express Velocity Platinum card through finder by 26 September 2018, you can earn 70,000 bonus points when you meet the spend requirement. You’ll have to spend $3,000 within the first 3 months of card membership to get the points.
You'd usually only earn 50,000 Velocity Points when you meet this spend requirement, so this is an easy way to pick up an extra 20,000 points with your Amex Velocity Platinum card.
This card also comes with one of the most competitive earn rates for Velocity Points chasers on the market right now. You will collect 1.5 Velocity Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases and 0.5 points per $1 spent with government bodies with the Amex Velocity Platinum card. Designed to reward loyal Virgin Australia customers, you’ll also earn an additional 1 Velocity Point per $1 you spend on eligible Virgin purchases.
If you spend $50,000 on eligible purchases over the course of your membership year, you’ll earn 100 Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits. This is currently the only card on the market that offers Velocity Status Credits, which sets it apart if you want to climb the Velocity status tiers.
As well as rewards, this card is also packed with a bunch of other travel-centric perks. After your first spend each year, you’ll be treated to a complimentary domestic return Virgin Australia flight between select cities in Australia. You can also travel in style with two complimentary single entry passes to Virgin Australia lounges each year. You’ll also receive two complimentary passes to use at the American Express Lounge at Sydney International Airport or Melbourne International Airport per year.
Although the perks are impressive, this card charges a $375 annual fee. It also has a high 20.74% p.a. purchase rate, so it’s best suited to cardholders who regularly pay off their balance in full each statement period.
