If you have have your period...

Did you know that the average menstruating person will use around 15,000 pads and tampons in their life, most of which will end up in landfill as plastic waste? If you want to ditch single-use period products, Modibodi has got you sorted. Its catalogue includes over 10 types of period undies in pretty much every colour and style imaginable. This includes classic bikini cuts, comfy seamless undies, hi-waisted cuts and G-strings across sizes 8–26.

There are also different options depending on where you are in your cycle from light (1 tampon's worth) and moderate (up to 2 tampons' worth) to heavy (up to 10 tampons' worth).

If you're working out...

Modibodi has 2 essentials for your gym bag: The Active Brief and Active Legging.

You can pick up the briefs in 2 different options. The first is light-moderate for absorbency (suitable for periods and holds up to 2 tampons' worth) and moisture wicking (perf for combatting the sweatiest of workouts). Unlike the regular leak-free undies, the active range is made from breathable Merino wool to keep you cool, dry and say "see ya" to sweat patches.

I've never come across period activewear before, so the Modibodi Active Leggings straight-up blew my mind. The 7/8 leggings have an absorbent leak-proof gusset built into the leggings, which can hold up to 3 tampons' worth. They're a flattering high-waisted cut and have a drawstring for a stretchy yet snug fit.

If you're swimming..

Good news, you never have to feel paranoid when swimming on your period again. Turns out that Modibodi also has a range of leak-proof swimwear, including low-cut or high-waisted bikini briefs as well as a gorge one-piece. The swimwear range is designed to suit a light to moderate flow and can hold up to 2 tampons' worth of fluid. Not bad.

The outer fabric dries 3x quicker than typical swimwear, which is handy if you don't have time to dry off in the sun. The briefs are available in a simple black design, which makes it easy to mix and match them with your bikini tops as well.

If you're a new mum...

Breastfeeding bra and cami

Modibodi has a few goodies for the mama bears out there. This includes the Modibodi breastfeeding bra and cami tops. They have a unique leak-proof cup that absorbs milk, wicks away moisture and odours. It also means you can ditch the disposable breast pads for good. Both the bra and cami have front clips and a built-in internal sling to make 1-handed feeding easier. In what can only be described as black magic, they also have flexi-fit sizing which adjusts up to 3 sizes and adapts to your body as it changes.

Maternity brief

Modibodi also has 2 types of undies that you can rock during and after pregnancy. The maternity briefs have a wide V-shaped waistband which sits snuggly below your bump or post-baby belly. It also uses Modibodi's most absorbent lining ever to handle heavy discharge, postpartum bleeding or bladder leaks.

The maternity briefs are available in light-moderate (which offers support equivalent to 2 tampons) or maxi-24hrs absorbency, which can be worn for an entire day and hold up to 10 tampons' worth.

Postpartum control brief

The postpartum briefs also protect against discharge, postpartum bleeding or bladder leaks, but they have a high waist cut for targeted tummy control and back support. They also feature an absorbent antimicrobial lining, so you won't have to worry about odours, stains or leaks.

All of your period undies questions answered

If you're considering making the switch from single-use hygiene products, we've rounded up and answered some of the most frequently asked questions about reusable period undies to help you out.

Can I actually wear them without a tampon or pad?

Yes! Period undies are designed be worn solo to replace tampons, pads and other period products.

How long can you wear them for?

This depends but most period undies can hold between 1 and 5 tampons' worth of blood, which means you can usually wear them for several hours.

Can you bleed through period undies?

Reusable period undies are designed with leak-free technology, so you shouldn't bleed through them unless you wear a single pair for too long.

Are period undies comfortable?

Yes! They're usually a much comfier alternative to a pad or tampon. They use wicking technology to combat any moisture and to leave you feeling clean, dry and comfy.

How do you wash them?

  1. Rinse your undies in some cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Chuck them in the washing machine with detergent and run on cold.
  3. Avoid using fabric softener, as this can break down the neutral fibres in the period pants.
  4. Hang them out to dry and don't put them in the clothes dryer.
