What is the Oppo R15 Pro?

The Oppo R15 Pro is, as the suffix suggests, a souped-up version of the Oppo R15 that launched at the same time. What that means is that you get the usual Oppo approach to affordability in a phone that looks (and in most ways acts) like a premium flagship device.

The Oppo R15 Pro runs on Android 5.1 with Oppo's own ColorOS overlay. That gives its phones a very "iPhone" style feel more than Android if that's to your taste.

Like the Oppo R15, the Oppo R15 Pro features a large 6.28-inch OLED display that should have decent colour characteristics, although it's only a 1080x2280 pixel display, which is a little lower than most flagships. The even fancier Oppo Find X dodges a notched display, but it's definitely present on the Oppo R15 Pro.

Where the Oppo R15 Pro differs from the Oppo R15 is in its size, being marginally larger, and in its internal processor. The Oppo R15 runs off a low-power Mediatek processor, but the Pro model sports Qualcomm's rather more capable Snapdragon 660 processor, along with 6GB of RAM. That's not cutting edge – again, if you want that in an Oppo handset, look to the Oppo Find X – but it's highly capable for most tasks.

The Oppo R15 Pro also features NFC, a first for Oppo phones, which should mean it'll be compatible with mobile payment services such as Google Pay.

Does the Oppo R15 Pro have a good camera?

Oppo's pitch in cameras has long mirrored its general philosophy, delivering better cameras than you'd expect at its price range. We still have to properly test out the Oppo R15 Pro's camera, but the early signs are good based on our hands on and on its core specifications.

The R15 Pro has a slightly better camera array than the Oppo R15. While the front selfie camera is identical with a 20MP f/2.0 lens, at the rear you'll find dual 16/20MP sensors on the R15 Pro, where the regular Oppo R15 only has dual 15/5MP.

Is the Oppo R15 Pro water resistant?

For the longest time, Oppo's phones didn't feature specified water resistance, with only broad claims about splash resistance that you should expect out of any handset.

However, the Oppo R15 Pro bucks that trend and offers IP67 water resistance. Remember that those tests are in clean lab water, so it's probably not wise to take it surfing. Notably, this means that the Oppo R15 Pro actually outdoes the more premium Oppo Find X in this aspect.
