What is the Oppo R15?

Oppo's market positioning has long rested on providing premium-looking handsets that come to market at highly aggressive price points. The Oppo R15 continues this tradition, with a bevy of features you'd expect on flagship phones at around half the usual asking price.

It's an Android phone with Oppo's own ColorOS overlay that gives it a distinctly iOS-style feel. That's long made Oppo phones a good choice for those looking to flip over to Android from an iPhone, but it's definitely an acquired taste. The use of a lower-spec MediaTek processor does mean that the R15 won't be a premium powerhouse, but it should suffice if your needs aren't that high-end.

The Oppo R15 features a large 6.28 inch OLED display that should have decent colour characteristics as OLEDs tend to, although it's only a 1080x2280 pixel display, a little lower than most flagships. While the fancier Oppo Find X skips out on a notched display in favour of its pop-up cameras, it's very much present here on the Oppo R15.

Oppo's paid careful attention to design with the Oppo R15, with a variety of colours ranging from standard black or white options up to fancier purple and red tones that really stand out. However, it's not entirely clear which colour variants we'll see here in Australia.

Does the Oppo R15 have a good camera?

Oppo has gone from strength to strength with its camera technology for recent flagships, and the R15 looks to be no exception. At the front you'll find a 20MP sensor for selfie purposes, backed with Oppo's own take on personal beautification to remove all those unsightly wrinkles and blemishes. The same sensor is also used for Oppo's take on facial unlocking, with a system that Oppo claims captures 296 different facial feature points to make sure that it's really you unlocking your phone.

Around the back you'll find dual lenses, 16MP and 5MP respectively for taking shots and creating bokeh on portrait photography. While that's not cutting edge, within its price bracket it's a very appealing combination that should yield good results.

Is the Oppo R15 water-resistant?

Sadly water resistance isn't part of the Oppo R15's playbook, although it is a feature of the R15 Pro if it's important to you. The Oppo R15 should be fine for small splashes, but immersing it is not advisable.

How much will the Oppo R15 cost?

On an outright basis, the Oppo R15 will retail for $659 in Australia.

We're waiting for full contract details for the Oppo R15, which should appear closer to 9 July 2018. However, given its asking price, your contract handset repayments should be modest over a 24-month term.
