We review A LOT of foundations here at Finder. Except this time I don't actually have a foundation to review. I’ve just had the chance to try two products that will completely change the way you think about your makeup base.
We all know our skin tone changes throughout the year. We get lighter in winter and darker throughout the summer. If you're a fake-tanning girl then you also know the struggle of having about 5 (or 10) different foundations to match your ever-changing skin tone. Then there are those horrible moments where we purchase a foundation only to realise it's the wrong colour.
But these products will change the game entirely: lightening and darkening drops. Add them to your foundation and they lighten or darken the colour until you get the perfect match. While this isn't a new invention, I've never been able to find a formula I love (which is why I own 14 foundations – no, I'm not kidding and yes, I have a problem). However, when these two products landed on my desk, I saw the future.
The MECCA MAX Life Proof Liquid Lightener and Liquid Darkener might look like a concealer from the outside, but when you take the cap off it reveals a pump. And that was just the first surprise.
My main issue with these types of products is that I don't want anything messing with the formula of my foundation. Plus these kinds of drops can take away coverage, which is just another no-no.
So when I applied the drops to my Nars Sheer Glow liquid foundation (my holy grail), I've never been so pleasantly surprised. From the swatches below you can see that the pigment and formula are not altered in any way, shape or form. A bit like Goldilocks' porridge, the resulting formula isn't too thick or too thin – it's just right. And the Liquid Lightener and Darkener blend effortlessly with the foundation.
In the test swatches shown, the middle shade is the original foundation shade and the two shades on the right have drops of the lightener and the two shades on the left have drops of the darkener. As you can see, these drops make a substantial difference in terms of how much they change the foundation. Additionally, a fair amount of product comes out with a single pump so depending on how much you choose to use, the changes can be as drastic or little as you need.
Probably my favourite part about this product is that it is super affordable. The same product from CoverFX costs $72, whereas the MECCA MAX Life Proof Liquid Lightener and Darkener are only $20 each. Seriously, for nearly a quarter of the price and the same high quality, I can't think of a reason you wouldn't give this a go.
The one and the only place you can get your hands on these bad boys is MECCA.
