Beauty product of the week: MAC Lightful C Softening Lotion
Our favourite product right now is not quite a toner, but not quite a moisturiser.
Why we love this product
In my opinion, the MAC Lightful C skincare range includes some of the most underrated products on the market. I personally use the eye cream, the BB cream and of course the softening lotion.
All the products in the Lightful C range contain MAC's exclusive marine bright formula which contains three potent seaweed extracts. Yep. Seaweed. The same stuff that the $400 La Mer cream is made from. These extracts are rich in amino acids and vitamin C which leads to clearer brighter skin - or so the product descriptions claim.
The softening lotion is an interesting product in the range. It's definitely not a serum but it's also not quite a toner and not quite a moisturiser. It doesn't really fit into a traditional beauty routine and I think that's partly why people might shy away from this product - they don't know how to use it.
I'm here to tell you, don't ignore this product! It's a skin lifesaver.
I decided to start using it in place of a toner. I never really liked toners because they never seemed to do much for me. So the idea of a toner product that was more of a moisturiser seemed like a nice compromise. After just a week of using it, my pores were visibly smaller and my complexion was definitely brighter.
It completely eliminated that dull, lack-of-sleep greyness that my skin sometimes has. Instead it made my skin clearer and look as though I was wearing some kind of pretty illuminating primer.
The other added benefit of this product is that it preps your skin to better absorb any other products you might be using so you end up getting better results from any skincare you use following this lotion. I use it after cleansing in the morning and night, right before I put on my moisturisers. You can add it to a cotton pad and swipe it over your face but I prefer to tip a little out into my hands and rub it. Watch out though, this product almost has the consistency of water, so don't tip too much out.
The Lightful C range also promises to minimise skin discolouration and even skin tone. As someone with Mediterranean skin, I do suffer from some pigmentation issues and I can't say that this product has had too much of an effect on evening that all out.
But it really does deliver on all its other promises.
This product is $45, so it's not outside the realm of affordability. I think it's very good value for money considering how much you get in the bottle and how little you need to use for this to be effective. My bottle has lasted me almost a year now.
