lockdown makeover

Cue the makeover montage, it's time to banish the lockdown gremlin.

It's been 84 years since we entered lockdown (not facts but it's emotionally accurate) and in that time I've become what I fondly call the lockdown gremlin.

However, with the end of lockdown in sight and my reintroduction to society looming, it's time for a glow up. It's going to be pretty difficult to get appointments at salons and it will also be pretty pricey to do the whole shebang.

SO I thought I'd share some of the at-home beauty finds I've loved during lockdown and highly recommend for your post-lockdown makeover.

1. Bondi Sands One Hour Express Tan and Face Mist

Where to buy: eBay

The Bondi Sands One Hour Tan takes all the fuss out of tanning. Smack it on and in 1 hour you've got a beautiful golden glow.

The brand also recently launched a tanning face mist so you've got all the bases covered. This tanning duo is perfect for those who don't care to chill in a tan for 6 hours or need a quick fix.

2. Ardell Demi Wispies Lashes 4 Pack

Where to buy: eBay

As someone who used to spend hundred on lash extensions, let me tell you – these are just as good and your wallet will thank you for it.

The lash band on the Ardell lashes is thin and flexible making application a dream. The Demis are perfect for both day and evening wear. Personally, I like to cut them in half and wear them on the ends of my lashes for a subtle cat-eye look.

It's literally lash extensions for a quarter of the price.

3. Garnier Olia Permanent Hair Colour

Where to buy: eBay

If you're hair needs a little extra love or your colour has faded then the Garnier Olia Permanent Hair Colour is my top pick to bring some life back to your locks.

The formula of this at-home dye makes your hair feel so soft and silky it's ridiculous. I've only ever used the brunette colours (which are a 10/10) so if you're looking to go blonde maybe stick to the salon professionals.

4. Evo Hair Fabuloso Platinum Blonde Toning Shampoo

Where to buy: Adore Beauty

However, I'm not going to leave my blonde girls out to dry.

If your colour is in need of a tone then look no further than the Evo Hair Fabuloso Platinum Blonde Toning Shampoo. With a 4.7/5 star rating, this purple shampoo packs a punch to neutralise unwanted brassy tones in hair.

It's sulphate free, so cleanses without stripping, and it's also vegan and cruelty free.

5. Henna Eyebrow Tint Dye Kit

Where to buy: eBay

Now I don't recommend waxing your own eyebrows because that's how hearts get broken. However, with a simple pluck, trim and dye of your brows, you'll be looking refreshed in NO time.

This is also going to save you a helluva lot of money because in-salon henna treatments can cost $80 to $120. Really, the process is as simple as drawing on your brows as you would with a pomade or powder, leaving it there for a few minutes and washing it off. Boom, bold tinted brows in minutes.

You can also use the henna to create some cute faux freckles if you're game.

6. Minenssey Australian Clay Mask Revival Set

Where to buy: Active Skin

It's also the perfect time to give your skin a bit of a refresh and reset before heading out into the big bad world. The Minenssey Australian Clay Mask Revival Set ticks all the boxes as it not only pulls impurities but reintroduces hydration back into your skin.

This clay mask set is the perfect cocktail of ingredients designed to work in tune with your skin's natural 21-day renewal cycle, allowing you to mask every 2-3 days to reap the full benefits of rejuvenated skin as well as barrier protection from free-radicals. Fresh, glowing skin right in time for summer? I think yes.
