Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. That's the story of France's history at the Rugby World Cup, with three runners-up finishes. This time out, it would be quite a surprise if the French could put together a deep finals run.

Known by the name Les Bleus, the nickname pays homage to the blue kits worn by the team. Les Bleus aren't even a guarantee to advance out of the pool stage. France are in Pool C, which has since been called the pool of death. With only two sides to advance, the French will have to battle it out with England and Argentina to progress.

France vs Argentina is at 5:15pm AEST on Saturday 21 September and is the opening match of Pool C and will be crucial in determining the standings of the group. Another big game is the last fixture in the group stage for Les Bleus against rivals England. France vs England is scheduled for 7:15pm AEST on Saturday 12 October. The French will be hopeful of having wrapped up a top two finish before then.
