Update: England has eliminated the Wallabies from the RWC. They'll now have to defeat the All Blacks to make the final.
England experienced complete and utter disaster at the last Rugby World Cup, failing to make it out of the pool stage. This embarrassment meant England were the first host nation not to make it to the knockout stages in the tournament's history.
Since then the English rugby team has undergone a vigorous revamp. It's worked, with the side on the up ever since.
Former Australian Wallabies coach, Eddie Jones, was also appointed to change England's fortunes. Under his tutelage, he has assembled a line-up capable of being a top contender in Japan.
Opponents will have to watch out for Samoan-born Manu Tuilagi. While often injured, the destructive centre is currently fit and firing. He continues the tendency of English sporting teams relying on talented foreign-born players.
England Rugby World Cup form guide
The English come into the Rugby World Cup on the back of some barnstorming performances. Winning three of their last four matches, England walloped current world number one, Ireland. The only loss came narrowly against Wales, who the English had defeated in the prior fixture.
England has been drawn into the pool of death, Pool C. Although England are ranked highest and favoured to finish first in the pool, it won't be simple. The presence of Argentina and France means at least one of the top sides in the world will miss out on the knockout stages.
With the burden of the last tournament's disaster hanging over the heads of the players, a strong start is imperative. England vs Argentina is a huge clash and a loss would heap pressure on England in the final pool match against France.
