What is LINK?

LINK, or LN, is the native cryptocurrency coin of the LINE blockchain ecosystem, developed by the LINE corporation. The LINE corporation is known for developing one of the world’s most successful messaging apps and “smart” portals. LINE’s aim is to integrate the LINE blockchain with the company’s existing ecosystem to become a blockchain and token economy that “regular” people around the world use. The project hopes to combat some of the issues previous blockchains have faced including investor-centred ecosystems, unbalanced token economics and cumbersome user interfaces.

To combat these issues, LINE has developed a new ecosystem that consists of the LINE blockchain, the LINE corporation, the LINA decentralised application (dapp) and any external dapps built within the network. With the LINE blockchain sitting at the centre, the native cryptocurrency LINK connects everything together. The coin not only powers the LINE blockchain but is used to pay for a wide array of services being offered within the ecosystem. These may be services offered by LINE or external dapp providers. Use cases may include paying for digital content, gaming data, commerce and digital-asset exchanges. According to the project’s website, LINK’s value always adheres to a minimum value peg of US$5. Although holding a minimum value of $5, the coin is not bound to the peg and, as such, can increase in price when market conditions change.
