Labor holds just 12% of the top 25 electorates likeliest to have private health cover.

Liberal Party voters are more likely to have private health insurance, with new research revealing the political party controls the top 10 electorates where voters are most likely to be covered.

Roy Morgan Research's latest findings reveal a little over half of all Australians have private health insurance but voters in Liberal-held seats, from Berowra to Bennelong, are likeliest to have private health insurance.

Here are the top 10 electorates with the biggest percentage of residents with private health insurance:

  1. Berowra NSW - 82%
  2. Moore WA - 82%
  3. North Sydney NSW - 81%
  4. Bradfield NSW - 78%
  5. Curtain WA - 77%
  6. Kooyong VIC - 76%
  7. Bennelong NSW - 75%
  8. Tangney WA - 74%
  9. Mitchell NSW - 74%
  10. Goldstein VIC - 73%

Of the top 25 electorates with the highest numbers of privately insured voters, only three - Perth and Fremantle in Western Australia and the nation's capital, Canberra in the ACT - are held by Labor.

The other 88% of electorates are held by the Liberal Party of Australia.

Voters in the marginal Liberal electorates of Lindsay, Lyons, Paterson and Petrie are around 13-25% less likely than average to have private health insurance. Just one in five residents of Braddon, ACT are likely to be covered.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's electorate of Wentworth NSW came in at #11 on the list (72%), while former PM Tony Abbott's seat of Warringah was equally popular (72%) among those with private health cover.

Since the last Federal Election in October 2013 61% of Liberal voters had private health insurance, ahead of 53% of Nationals supporters, 51% of Greens backers, and 47% of Australian Labor Party voters.

Ever wondered whether voting below the line is worth the effort? With new rules in place this year it's easier than ever and we explain how to get it done with minimal stress.
