Everything you need to know about the new Levi’s x Google trucker jackets
Whether playing music or taking photos from a distance, there isn't much that these innovative jackets can't do.
From smartwatches to self-lacing shoes, technology is well and truly taking over the fashion world. One label at the forefront of this new era is Jacquard by Google, which works hand in hand with designers to create smart fashion and products, such as, say, trucker jackets that can connect to your smart device.
Working in tandem with denim label Levi's, Jacquard by Google has now done just that with the release of Levi's iconic trucker jackets complete with Jacquard technology. Available now from both Myer and the Levi's site, three iterations of the smart jacket are up for grabs. The standard Trucker Jacket is available both in men's and women's styles, while a Sherpa Jacket with a lined point collar is on offer for the colder weather.
All three jackets feature a small Jacquard tag on the left sleeve cuff which you can pair to your smart device. You can then program up to four different functions that can be activated through motions such as swiping, double-tapping or covering the tag with your hand.
Some of these capabilities include pausing and playing music, silencing your phone, dropping a pin on a map, triggering photos remotely, getting updates on your Uber ride and receiving real time updates about sports, news and weather from the Google Assistant. The Jacquard tag will also alert you to calls and texts and will even let you know if you leave your phone or jacket behind.

The tag itself gives you 14 days of use on a full charge and can be charged with a Micro-USB cable (included with the jacket). In order to use the Jacquard functions you will need both a Google account and the accompanying Jacquard app.
This is not the first time that Google and Levi's have teamed up, with the duo first releasing a Jacquard Commuter Trucker Jacket two years ago. However, the latest iterations are much more widely available than the original and are also more in line with the classic Levi's jacket look.
They are also much more affordable than the first design, which was priced at US$350. The new standard Trucker Jacket meanwhile retails for $229.95, while the Sherpa Jacket will set you back $299.95.
