Qantas has launched its latest Fly Away Sale and this time it's all about the US of A. There are flights to New York City from $1,299, to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas from $999 and to New Orleans or Chicago from $1,199 to name a few.

They depart from Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth and are for travel between 27 September - 30 November and 19 January - 28 June 2017.

Choose dates within the first travel period to catch New York dressed in fall foliage, Thanksgiving celebrations and the first Christmas lights going up.

Opt for dates in the second travel period for warmer weather and to take advantage of long Australian public holidays like Easter.

As with most Fly Away Sales, you'll have to be quick on the mark to grab these cheap fares as the promotion ends midnight 15 September.

How cheap is cheap?

The last Qantas USA sale that caught our eye was in June when the airline boasted flights to San Francisco from $1,049 and to New York from $1,399. Its latest sale is coming up at least $50 cheaper – which you can put toward two tickets into San Francisco Zoo or 40 New York hot dogs.

They're not the cheapest flights to the US at the moment though. Fiji Airways wins that round after dipping flights to Los Angeles down to $808 return and flights to San Francisco from $815 return last week. These are for a slightly shorter travel period (October to March), though they are still on sale and can be booked through Skiddoo.

Where Qantas wins is in its sheer range of US destinations and, if you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you stand to rack up at least 6,750 points and 60 status credits on the cheapest route (Sydney to Los Angeles when flying economy class).
