Beauty product of the week: La Mer Illuminating Eye Gel
If you can only buy one La Mer product, this is the one you should pick.
Why we love this product
This product actually makes a difference to the signs of ageing on my face.
I'm 26 so I really don't have too much to complain about just yet, but I do have some fine, barely visible lines around my eyes and a deeper expression line between eyebrows thanks to the perpetual frown my face falls into whenever I'm concentrating.
I was seriously considering getting botox on the expression line before it got worse but I was advised to give La Mer a go first. And after trying it I can definitely say that the lines around my eyes have disappeared and the line between my brows is significantly better, although still visible in some lights.
It was only after I stopped using the product that I truly saw how well it worked. I stopped using this gel cream for about a month while I was testing another product and the lines came back. I was almost shocked when they did. I forgot that this was what my expression line used to look like.
Needless to say, after I finished testing the other product I went back to using the Illuminating Eye Gel ASAP!
You only need a small amount of this product. A little dollop of about the size of three pinheads does both of my eyes and leaves a little excess for me to massage into the area between my brows where the expression line is. It's very lightweight and luminous and it sinks straight into the skin. It's meant for day and night use but I only use it in the evenings since my skin is still young. I feel that this is often enough for me to reap the benefits.
In addition to minimising the lines on my face, it keeps my eye area brighter, plumper and softer.
The Illuminating Eye Gel is formulated with La Mer's famous Miracle Broth, which is made of fermented sea algae that is supposed to repair and renew skin. I've read a lot about these products. Many swear by them, while others say that using drug store products is just as effective. And while I can't speak about the science behind the formulation, I can see that this product does what it promises for my skin.
I've used most products in the La Mer range and this is hands down my favourite. If I could only buy one La Mer product, this is the one I would pick. It's definitely given me visible results that hundreds of other eye creams haven't.
Affordability
At around $180-$210 for 15mL, this is not an affordable product.
But if ageing and lines are a concern of yours and you can afford it, this is what I would buy. A 15mL bottle for nighttime use only lasts me about four months.
As with most luxury products, you can get it cheaper overseas. MECCA is currently charging $210 for it, whereas Selfridges is charging $155.
