This unique and lightweight blush formulation feels like a second skin.
What we liked

- Free from fragrance, parabens and sulphates
What we didn't like
- Oily skin types need to put in more work to make it last
If you're as immersed in the beauty world as I am, you'll know that blush is really having its moment right now. A product that we used to steer clear of (for fear that it would make us look red-faced) is now becoming a staple in everyone's makeup routine.
Powder, cream, liquid or gel – whatever your preferred formulation is, blush is the one product that can seriously change the shape of your face and bring life and vibrancy to your complexion.
Personally, I've had a lot of fun trying out all the new and innovative blush products on the market. So when I first laid my eyes on KVD Beauty's new ModCon Liquid-Gel Blush hybrid, I just knew that I had to give it a red-hot go.
What does it do?
KVD Beauty's ModCon Blush has a lightweight and long-wearing formulation.
It arrives in a portable and convenient tube for easy application, and its unique and vegan gel formula is infused with hoya lacunosa flower extract to keep your skin looking smooth and moisturised.
Does it work?
My favourite thing about this blush is its formulation. As the name suggests, it's a liquid-gel hybrid and its unique texture allows the product to sink into your skin with ease. It's also super easy to build up to achieve your desired colour without it looking too cakey. It honestly feels like a second skin!
I prefer to apply a few drops to the back of my hand first and then apply it onto my cheeks – I find it a little daunting to apply straight to my face. This also means I get more of a chance to manipulate the product in the way that I want.
I've tried blending with both my fingers and a brush, but I much prefer the warmth of my fingers to blend the product out. After I've applied it, my skin looks super hydrated and dewy, with just the right amount of colour.
If you've got oily skin, I wouldn't rule this product out completely – it's going to give your skin so much life. You've just got to start with a good base. Make sure to lightly powder before and after use, and I wouldn't recommend wearing this on a 40-degree day.
There are multiple shades to choose from, all free from shimmer and designed to complement a wide range of skin tones. The shade I tried is called Dewality and it's a gorgeous coral-pink. The colour reminds me of NARS' iconic Orgasm shade without all the shimmer.
In the image above, I'm wearing the ModCon Blush over the top of my normal skincare routine (including sunscreen). As you can see, it blends seamlessly into the skin and looks super natural and dewy.
Should you buy it?
- Buy it if: You're looking for a unique blush formulation.
- Don't buy it if: You have really oily skin.
Overall, I give the KVD Beauty ModCon Liquid-Gel Blush 4 out of 5 stars.
I'm super impressed with the formulation and the way that it looks on the skin. It's unlike anything I've ever tried before and I think it could easily become an essential in my makeup routine.
It did lose a star because of the fact that it's not ideal for all skin types. If you suffer from severely oily skin, this product is definitely going to require some extra work.
I can also say that the buildable nature of the product does mean that at times, you need to give it some more work (regardless of your skin type). If the colour isn't showing up on your skin for whatever reason, you do have the chance to layer it on without it looking too cakey.
