Dust off your library card, Kanopy is available on Telstra TV
If you're still holding on to your library card, you may be able to access upwards of 30,000 movies right now.
Your public library has always had your back, but with the rise of digital subscriptions and audiobooks, it's likely been a while since you've walked the aisles of your local library. These publically available bastions of entertainment, knowledge and free Wi-Fi have been catching up with the times, offering much more than books and VHS.
Since 2008, the humble streaming service Kanopy has been slowly partnering with libraries and universities across the globe to give members and students access to an enormous suite of movies, new and old.
The service has been available in Australia for some time now and can be accessed via the official website or the iOS/Android app. Today, Telstra announced it is adding an app to the Telstra TV streaming device, giving you the big-screen Kanopy experience for nix. Telstra TV is included on select Telstra broadband plans.
The 30,000+ movie collection features a healthy mix of indie cinema, classic Hollywood, kids content and award-winning documentaries.
It's worth noting that only participating libraries and universities offer access to Kanopy, but there's a long list of partnered institutions and a handy search function over on Kanopy's website where you can track down your local haunt.
