Jaguar Australia partners with Carbar to offer luxury car subscription service

Jaguar Australia has announced a new partnership with Australian car subscription provider Carbar to provide customers with a manufacturer-powered luxury car subscription service.

Customers can drive away in a brand-new F-PACE AWD today with a flexible, no-contract subscription to Jaguar Land Rover via Carbar. This offering includes maintenance, roadside assistance, registration, ongoing car services and insurance, and prices start from $389 per week. Carbar will also deliver the car direct to your door upon sign-up.

Melbourne-based Carbar is an Australian buying, selling and subscription service for automobiles available in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Its subscription offering allows you to effectively hire and drive off in your favourite make of car for as long as you want, contract-free and fully-covered, for a fixed weekly price. So, if you're not ready yet, or have no desire to buy, then there's no need to stump up the cost of a purchase.

"The way in which we use a car is changing," said MD of Jaguar Australia Mark Cameron. "We expect to see demand for this service both from consumers and corporate clients, who may be considering a novated lease on a new car, but want more flexibility."

Jaguar Australia, a division of the UK's largest car manufacturer marrying the iconic UK Land Rover and Jaguar brands, is one of the first in a global trend of manufacturers launching car subscription services.

Carbar co-founder and CEO Des Hang said: "We're thrilled to partner with Jaguar Australia, and help them pioneer this new market in Australia for flexible car ownership."

He also mentioned that since its launch, Carbar has seen a definite rise in the number of consumers who opt for subscription over vehicle ownership.

Is this the death of car buying?

While times may be changing, Australians are still technically buying more cars every year, and more than ever before, so the market doesn't appear to be slowing just yet. However, car subscription services are a viable option for those who are not ready to fully commit to a car purchase or only need a car for certain times of the year.

And while it remains to be seen whether the cost of a subscription-based service would actually be more financially viable than the cost of purchasing a car (whether it be outright or on a credit basis), it is interesting to note that an increasing number of people are opting for a more hassle-free, commitment-free settlement.
