Jetstar Mastercard – Details & Application

Rack up points with Australia’s leading budget airline and do it on the cheap with up to 55 days interest-free

The Jetstar Mastercard is a low rate and low fee rewards credit card. For an annual fee of $69, you get 55 days interest-free on purchases and Jetstar Dollars or Qantas Points for every dollar you spend. There’s a competitive balance transfer offer too. Pay 0% p.a. for 14 months on credit card debt you bring to the Jetstar Mastercard when you apply. Interest-free days are void if you’re carrying a balance transfer balance. Any purchases you make will accrue interest at 14.99% p.a. right away. But for a card that gifts you with points when you spend, a purchase rate under the 20% mark is a welcome feature.

Jetstar Mastercard review

Rewards credit cards are characterised by high annual fees and rates of interest. This rewards credit card has neither — comparatively. While you can find a lower purchase rate on a low rate credit card, 14.99% p.a. is still pretty good for a rewards product. The same for the annual fee. The Jetstar Mastercard is among a handful of rewards credit cards that cost less than a $100 to own. Then there’s the promotional balance transfer offer of 0% p.a. for 14 months too, which is a saving on your current credit card repayments. As far as the rewards go, by default, you’re rewarded with Jetstar Dollars when you spend. You can opt-in to the Qantas Program for an additional $30 fee. Big spenders may want to consider another rewards credit card, there’s a cap on the number of Jetstar Dollars and Qantas Points you can earn in a year. Earn up to 500 Jetstar Dollars or 25,000 Qantas Points per year.

Benefits of the Jetstar Mastercard

Apply and get approved for the Jetstar Mastercard and you can take advantage of the following:

The purchase rate of interest is charged on any remaining balance at the end of the promotional period.
  • Jetstar Dollars or Qantas Points. You can choose the type of points you’ll accrue when you make purchases. Make an eligible purchase on the Jetstar Mastercard and you can earn Jetstar Dollars or Qantas Points. You have to opt-in to the Qantas Program to earn Qantas Points. Fees apply.
  • Interest-free days. ‘Up to’ interest-free days is a great credit card feature that allows you to make interest-free purchases. The Jetstar Travel Card offers up to 55 days interest-free when you pay your account in full each statement period. Interest-free days do not apply if you’re carrying a balance transfer balance.

      Hi Dianne,

      Thank you for your question.
Please note that our offer with Jetstar MasterCard has currently been paused but we will hopefully be looking to re-active the offer in the near future.
However, you may wish to compare your options and submit your application directly to the Jetstar’s official website.

      Hi Abdu,

In redeeming Jetstar rewards/ vouchers, the vouchers can be used to book a flight for a person who is related to you up to a reasonable degree such as a spouse, partner, parent/step-parent, brother/sister, stepbrother/stepsister, grandparent, grandchild, son/daughter-in-law, uncle/aunt, nephew/niece, and first cousin. It’s not required for you to be one of the passengers but you must be named as the contact during the booking process. Please see this page for more information on the Jetstar Frequent Flyers Rewards program.

      I hope this has helped.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

With the 0% balance transfer, if you don’t pay the minimum will the late fee be charged?

      Hi Glen,

      Thanks for your question.

Yes that’s correct. You need to maintain minimum repayments each statement period in order to avoid the $35 late payment fee.

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

    Hello,

when you say the balance transfer revert rate; is that the rate that will be incurred after the 10months (in this case)?

    Thank you.
    Alyaa

      ElizabethOctober 23, 2014Staff

      Hi Alyaa,

      Thanks for your question.

That’s correct, the revert rate refers to the interest rate that will apply to your balance once the balance transfer period is up. So, for this card, once then ten month period is up the purchase rate (currently 14.99% p.a.) will apply to your balance.

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth

Can I apply for the platinum card while unemployed? I have enough saving to live comfortably for the next 5 years but I am not sure how soon I will get the next job. Some might advise me to apply when I get a job but I like Qantas FF program because I am a frequent traveller and would like to keep earning points if that is possible. Please advise :-)

      JacobMay 17, 2013Staff

Hi Kim. If you don’t have any form of income, you can’t apply. If you income from property or Centrelink, then that’s ok. You have to meet the minimum income requirement listed at the bottom of each review page. Thanks for your question. Jacob.
