Jetstar launches direct Sydney and Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City route with $159 flight sale
One-way only. For 12 hours only.
Get your credit cards out, folks. Jetstar has today announced its launching direct flights between Sydney and Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Ho Chi Minh City.
This will make Jetstar the first low-cost carrier to offer this route direct, and to celebrate it is offering flights from $159 one-way. These will be available from midday on 19 January 2017 on select flights between 11 May and 22 June 2017, 18 July and 14 September 2017 and 10-27 October 2017. The sale ends at 11:59 AEDT the same day unless sold out prior.
Business class flights are also available from $549 one-way.
As Jetstar is a low-cost carrier, this price does not include checked-in baggage or on-board meals. These extras can be added for an additional charge. 20kg of baggage per leg is $90 so for a return, you'll be looking at $498 with check-in.
At present, Vietnam Airlines is the only carrier that offers direct services between these cities. Other carriers such as Qantas, Singapore Airlines as well as Jetstar itself currently offer indirect services via Singapore. Flights via Singapore are also available in this sale with prices starting from $199 one-way.
Both of Jetstar's new routes will take off on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in May 2017, with Melbourne pipping Sydney to the post with its first flight on 10 May. Sydney will begin the route on 11 May. These launch dates are subject to government and regulatory approval and may change.
Jetstar will operate its Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City route three times weekly while its Sydney route will operate four times weekly.
The launch of these routes is expected to open up the country to Australians who will now be able to connect to 15 domestic destinations within Vietnam on its Jetstar Pacific service. These include popular cities such as Hanoi, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hue.
