Jet set to Thailand from $287 return
Chase that sun for a steal.
Winter is here, but if you're like us – that is, in complete denial of the plunging temperatures – then take heart because there's a tropical city that you can hightail it to for cheap. Flights are now on sale to Bangkok, so jump on them to escape the winter blues.
For the low price of $287 return, you'll be flying during the tail-end of winter (from 15 August to 20 September) from Darwin to Bangkok. If you book this route with Flight Centre, you can also score 3 nights' accommodation from just $1,059, including flights with Malaysia Airlines.
Fares from other cities are also available, though are a marked jump up in price. Sample fares include Perth to Bangkok from $488, Melbourne to Bangkok from $518, Gold Coast to Bangkok from $520 and Sydney to Bangkok from $536 return. To be fair, travel dates are for the more favourite months of October and November, which fall just outside of monsoon season and are generally blessed with clear skies throughout.
The airline you'll fly with on these other routes varies greatly and could be with Scoot, Malaysia Airlines, China Southern, Jetstar or Royal Brunei. The cheaper options will more likely than not be on budget airlines Scoot and Jetstar; however, you can choose to upgrade to a full-service airline at a cost.
There's no set end date to this sale, which you can jump on at Flight Centre. Chances are it'll stick around for a bit, though we're certain those desirable November dates will be the first to sell out.
How good are these fares?
At the best of times, we've seen budget flights to Bangkok drop to below $200 return. While this was during the shoulder monsoon season, it did come with a companion-sale catch.
At $287 return, you're looking at well-priced fares though you should be mindful of the weather. Our advice? Pay the extra for October or November flights, so you can get out and see the city. At a touch over $500 return, they're not overpriced compared to previous sales and come with that added benefit of sunshine.
