Offset and save on interest loan rates

This special offer from Jaguar Land Rover could save you substantial amounts of money if you offset the interest charges for a loan against the Qantas points.

For example, a 2017 Jaguar XF 20d Prestige sedan with a diesel engine retails for $94,990 driveaway in Sydney postcode 2000. The interest rate Jaguar dealers use for comparison is 6.99% p.a.

Over 48 months, with no deposit, you’d pay 207 weekly repayments of $407.96 with $17,952.74 in interest. In total, you pay $112,942.74.

This model gives you 100,000 Qantas Points or 110,000 for ABN holders. Depending on what you spend them on, your Qantas Points can be worth as little as 0.567 cents or as much as 0.762 cents each.

The Qantas site lists the cost of a one-way first-class ticket from Sydney to Singapore in June at 90,000 points plus a fee and carrier charge of $599.60. The flight has a monetary value of $3,969.

Suppose you were going to take a flight to Singapore on business, you could use the money you save minus the flight fees as the downpayment on your Jaguar. That would equal a deposit of $3,369.40, bringing the weekly payments down to $393.56.

Moreover, the 30% balloon payment lowers to $27,486.18 and a total payment of $108,952.81. You’d actually save $3,989.93 in interest.
