Intrepid launches 18-29-year-old packages

Here's how to book your next adventure.

There are two main benefits to group tours. One is that you are being led by experienced guides so there’s little room for error and the other is that you get a built-in crew of travel buddies to share the experience with.

Intrepid has picked up on the desire for young travellers who want to discover and explore new places and different cultures to travel with like-minded people their own age. From 1 October, the tour operator will merge its Gecko Adventures brand into a new range of trips tailored for 18-29-year-olds.

In what can only be direct competition against Contiki, which currently caters for just 18-35-year-olds, Intrepid will offer new affordable and stress-free itineraries ranging from backpacking to big bus holidays.

As Intrepid retires Gecko Adventures, the new range will meet a growing need for sustainable, immersive local experiences among young Aussies travellers.

The new focus is evident in tours like the 10-day Essential Cambodia tour where you’ll enjoy a meal at the Friends International restaurant which is dedicated to training vulnerable young people in hospitality. A homestay in rural Chambok is also included which puts you right in the heart of everyday village life in Cambodia.

The tour operator has also agreed to make a donation for every booking under the new offering to Friends-International, a social enterprise saving lives and building futures for marginalised young people.

The new Intrepid 18 to 29s brochure is out now and features tours such as these:

  • 15-day Real Everest Base Camp from $1,680: Make the ultimate mountain memory when you conquer this trek to the foot of mighty Everest.
  • One Week in Cuba from $1,140: Go back in time on the streets of Cuba discovering the music, food and culture that fuel the country.
  • 10-day Essential Southern Thailand from $1,060: Embrace your inner beach bum and pack your sense of adventure on this journey through the best of Southern Thailand.
  • One Week Sailing Split to Dubrovnik from $2,059: Become immersed in Croatia's natural beauty while sailing the stunning Adriatic coast.
